Re: I Really Want to Know!

[ Edited ]

I find the vast majority of posters are good, genuine, people who enjoy other people's questions, answers, opinions.

A lot of people don't say thank you. It's not a big deal. Expecting a thank you is, IMO, like donating a clothes to a shelter and demanding the recipients model them for you. That wasn't the purpose of your donation just like thank you isn't the purpose of you responding to a post.

There are always a few who bash, will report you if they don't like your opinion, and those who don't think about others. It's the same thing that happens in real life...and what was done in the original post.  We all do it sometimes.

People who post have to put on their big girl/big boy panties. Sometimes you get what you want and sometimes you don't. You have to be able to ignore the comments and things you don't like.

Relax and enjoy what's good and ignore the rest.

Is there not a way the mods or the forums are regulated to prohibit people from having multiple accounts/nics?

@Shanus ,

I always wondered that too.

Maybe it isn't important enough or too time consuming to QVC.

I don't know but I wish they could.

I can't imagine spending the time to have multiple nicks unless to conceal or create controversy or conflict or just a game to people? Creating different personalities for themselves and others? I don't know.

@Shanus and @on the bay,   Yes, it's possible to at least severely limit the use of multiple or bogus accounts on forums, in general, but from my perspective it's not a priority on QVC's site.   From what I've seen the very limited and (in my opinion) unsophisticated and archaic "canned" software used by QVC doesn't focus on it, and the many other complicated and challenging demands on the moderators' time take precedence over such a time-consuming manual task.

I used to help moderate an international forum associated with our medical and IT arena, and we had training and software to spot the "tells."

Why people do it, or why people "troll" forums, etc., is a big discussion.  I was interested because of the forums we were managing, and my late husband (a psychiatrist) also was interested in the psychology and the personalities behind it all.   There's plenty of insightful information, articles, online about it, compiled over the years.

Interesting thread, @on the bay.😊

It's interesting isn't it?   I have wondered many times if people just make up stories like "you'll never guess what happened to me today....."   I think we have all probably experienced those people who get snarky if they don't like what you had to say or report you for no reason at all.   And yes, there's the undercover people posting on here for sure.  But as said, most people are genuine and I learn a lot  so I try to skip over the nonsense and the posters that are just dying for attention.  Sad.

@dooBdoo   I don't pretend to know the true psychology of trolls, but because I've had the same one following me from thread to thread for over 10 years  I can only assume it's jealousy that I received reponses or her need for attention. She's very nasty and is snarky. I report those remarks that are baiting and try not to "get into it" with her.

Trolls like the attention even if it's, negative like a child,  and get no response, but enjoy that their words are out there. Other than that, I see no reason to pay attention to them...a useless waste of space and it breaks up the conversation.

I know that duplicates must exist here and agree about the outdated software.

QVC employees post here "undercover", not as moderators. The most prolific one has essentially admitted to this fact.

Let's not forget that some people are lonely, reaching out and maybe need contact. If their thread is suspect, not harmful, I will reply.

This last year has isolated many people. I keep that in the back of my mind.

I come here as a diversion, I don’t try to figure out who’s real and who’s fake. I treat everyone as though they're real. If sometimes I get an impression that someone’s fake or lying, then I just stay away from them, but I honestly don’t care much, as long as they’re not hurting me. Also, if I read someone’s posts and see that they’re pretty nasty most of the time, I tend to stay away from them...... A number of years ago I was accused of being two people, and it absolutely was not true. Many people believe what they want to believe, though, and there’s no convincing them. I think the best thing to do is if a person isn’t happy here or is overly suspicious of other posters, they should just leave for a while and take a break.

Something I have been more concerned about in the last few years - not here, but other message boards, is the concern over "chat bots" that are artificial intelligence and merely re-word and mirror whatever one says.  It's hard to know exactly what artificial intelligence is capable of.

What does bother me though is when I read nasty posts from one poster to another, for no good reason at all. It’s as though they just came on the thread to try to make people miserable.
