@forego I never turn off my cell phone, just for that reason. I put it on the charger when I go to bed, and it's close enough where I can hear it ring.

Not saying you should get rid of your landline...that's entirely up to you. But turning off a cell phone at night is not necessary.

I don't have a cell phone so I need my land line.I once had a cell but lost it and realized that I didn't miss it at all.I don't like talking on my phone in public places anyhow.

Re: I'M BLOCKING PHONE CALLS !!

In 2006 we had to rent a place for a few months while our house was being built.  There was no landline.  Needless to say, when we moved in to the new house we didn't get another landline.  The peace and quiet of no landline ringing and no machine kicking in and doing it's thing was wonderful.  Haven't missed it once in 16 years.

I have both a landline and cell phone and get spam calls on both. Good call blocking tools on each make it easy to control the spam. I kept the landline when I inherited my parents' house and the phone number is one that our relatives and family friends have known for many years. I won't disconnect it until I move someday.

I get political text messages from states where I don't reside. What's that all about? You would think they'd know the difference and not send this stuff where it doesn't apply.

Who on earth still has a landline phone??

Me!

And then you complain that you're getting spam calls!  Ya think??

No complaints from me. Found a way to work around the problem.

I have a very Smart TracFone with all the dodads on it. Last time I even saw it was at least 2 months ago. You could ask me: "why on earth do you have a cell phone", since I rarely even see it, much less use it? It is used for the original purpose, when invented by Alexander Graham Bell, to verbally communicate, with others.

To me a landline is not a relic, old technology? Yes! Useless? Not for a lot of us. Now cell phones(small portable computers)? To me, their negatives outweigh their positives. Mike 🎙Drop!!

@hckynut  I agree. I have our landline set up for 3 rings before the answering machine kicks in. Today, I'm lowering it to 2 rings!  Anyone who really wants us leaves a message.

DH and I both have cell phones. Mine  stays turned off till I go somewhere. DH is starting to get all kinds of Spam on his cell now, too.

I'm not against modern inventions, but I am against the way they are used (or should I say, "way over-used".

@catter70 Me, too! Usually from the party that I don't vote for. And they say "Hi (name that isn't mine)! Can we count on your vote?" Usually I just delete them, but occasionally I've replied with " I wouldn't vote for a (Party Name) if you paid me a million dollars!" Then I get a reply saying "Thanks for your input". That often ends it--til the next election cycle two years later.

Re: I'M BLOCKING PHONE CALLS !!

I have both. I have my landline because I need it for my fax machine.

I am so grateful I have it because a few weeks ago a cell tower was damaged in my area, and many phones did not transfer to another tower. Connection was spotty. I would have had nothing without that landline.
