My DH used to answer the phone acting like they reached a business and that helped take us off the list. Also we
disconnected the answering machine and let the calls just ring.
That also stopped the calls. Hardly get any these days.
Used the call ID to get back to folks.

One of the callers asked me the size of certain body parts. Hubbs was on the extension and set him on the correct path.

We don't answer calls that we know are bogus, but we can't just block all.
Exactly. I went thru this last year with my husband being in and out of so many hospitals and nursing homes for 18 months.
We gave up our landline over 2 yeears ago. I have ATT wireless - they have a good spam blocker but it doesn't block them all.

@Rose429 wrote:@ID2 I have a landline. I live in a very rural area and get spotty service on my cell phone. Walk up the street to get a full bar so I can use it. I keep the cell phone to have with me when I am out so if there is an emergency I can use it or people can get ahold of me.
@Rose429 - This is definitely a good reason to have a landline.

just acouple days ago I got an email that the my Norton computer anti virus had been re-newed for $496.00 and to call this number....to cancel it -----well....I don't use Norton and my account is fine thru 2024------obvious spam---delete, and block---until the next time--should be a special place in H3LL for spammers!!!!

Me!
And then you complain that you're getting spam calls! Ya think??
No complaints from me. Found a way to work around the problem.
I have a very Smart TracFone with all the dodads on it. Last time I even saw it was at least 2 months ago. You could ask me: "why on earth do you have a cell phone", since I rarely even see it, much less use it? It is used for the original purpose, when invented by Alexander Graham Bell, to verbally communicate, with others.
To me a landline is not a relic, old technology? Yes! Useless? Not for a lot of us. Now cell phones(small portable computers)? To me, their negatives outweigh their positives. Mike 🎙Drop!!

Will never ever get rid of my land line or answer machine for any body.
for those of you who did and use your cell phone and turn it off at night
what happens in case of a family emergency or death in the family late
at night.

I can't give up my land line. I need to keep my personal calls (on a cell phone) and business calls separate. So about 60-70% of calls are ghost calls. A computer calling me. I just have to weed through them about every other day. I have almost no scam calls on my cell phone, That's the odd part. Anyone that wants to reach me, gets to me through the cell phone. Roll of the dice with the land phone. And yes, I keep my cell phone plugged in to ring overnight. But so far no emergency calls 3:00AM in the morning.

@ID2 Lots of peope still have landlines...and for their own very good reasons! We just got rid of ours this year, because we got a cell signal booster that improved our cell service...we live in a very rural area, spotty cell service, no cable available, only satellite for TV and internet.
By the way...I still get spam calls on my cell phone, I just don't answer them!
