Oh my, what a shame we are all so inconvenienced by this virus. So far, first world issues.

When I graduated from high school, our whole area was flooded and major roads were closed off.
I was supposed to go to the beach with my two closest friends for graduation week and instead, we watched boats speed up and down the Main Street in town.
We were extremely unhappy at the time, but now we have a story to tell.

I know a wonderful group of elementary through senior high dancers, many of them dance majors who have worked very hard along with my friend who teaches them, choreographed and directed their year end performance. Cancelled.
It's more than "inconvenience". It's their work.
I can feel sad for them and others who have worked towards an event or culmination of work which have now been cancelled. No need to snark about "first world" issues.
Come to think of it, COVID-19 is a first world issue.

Our local food bank is sponsoring making food packages for those who cannot afford to buy so much at one time. Included in the packages are sanitation kits. Donations are being taken and volunteers are needed to put these kits together.
I cringe when I see people all happy that their case of TP arrived.
I have yet to see anybody saying they bought a case of this or a case of that but at least took a few cans or packages of beans or rice to their local food bank or place of worship.
I saw something today at market that really made me see how greedy and selfish some can be. I'm not going to get into it but suffice to say my view that people are basically good just faded quite a bit.
Multiple threads about poor Tom Hanks who will not go hungry, can afford the best of care, and was someplace making yet another round of millions really didn't move me in the sympathy column Not one bit.
Multiple threads about toilet paper do provide some levity, and I've participated in those myself.
But underneath the laughs about TP lies the serious and sad fact that people heading to market with the few $$ they have are not going to be able to buy very much to eat.
Let alone hand wipes or other means of sanitation.
So I'm not going to get all sorry for sports being cancelled. Kids have to learn disappointment. As a grandmother, I get it. I truly do. But this is a time for a lesson about life.
Take them to buy even one can of veggies or a bag of rice or beans.
Because no matter how young or how old anyone is, there is always room for compassion, even if it means an inconvenience of a cancelled game.
One can be disappointed, for sure. It's natural. But it isn't the end of life. Things will get back to "normal" for most; but for some the struggle to survive daily will not go away.
Wonderful statement!!! ITA with you also.

@nana59 It's a delay and better to have them healthy.

@QueenDanceALot Your attitude and response to my post just proved my point.

My mom said her pastor was told by the state to cancel her senior Bible Group. It is so sad because it is something that she looks forward to each week. I wonder if they will start cancelling worship services. Her church has more than 250 people attending services and there are two that meet on Sundays.

There are also other consequences if schools are closed. Parents may have to stay home from work to be with their children risking losing income. Also many poor children rely on school to feed them as the free breakfasts and lunches schools provide for low income students are the only meals they eat.

@ninjawife, it certainly is a domino effect. I hope that that government agencies can step in and make sure that children get fed. That should be a given.
