It can happen to anyone. I have a landline phone and on my message I just state my phone # that the person is calling, not our name. Well, I get a call from someone who says it's very important that I call them, that I am in trouble and someone is going to come to my house and arrest me if I don't call them back. Well, there are three people living in my house, who do they want? I'm a law obiding citizen and have never been in any kind of major trouble in my life, so if they want to send someone to me house to arrest me, have at it!
Several years ago, I took a Security course. One of the things we were told is to NEVER have your name or phone number on your phone message!! If you do, the would-be "caller" can now be sure that he knows your correct name and/or correct phone number. Of course, never say you are not home to leave a message!! What I say on my message is "Can't get to the phone right now, leave a message". My phone has an audio voice that announces "who" is on the phone. I answer only if I recognize name or number. If they leave a message, I will only call back if the person/number is someone I know. Amazing how many calls I get - that don't leave messages.

All good information.
corita, That's such a good point about disclosing the number. It gives useful info to a robocaller, for example, who scrolls through random numbers and waits for someone to pick up.

Most credit card purchases come with a guarantee for purchases. But....I am more concerned that you just clicked a link from where ever you were online. That is asking for virus and malware on your computer. Never, never, just click a link because it is there. Next time you see something like this that you are interested in, instead of clicking the link, look for information that you can use to go directly to a website instead. Perhaps, maybe if you had started an online search to locate an official website first, you might have seen the information online you found later that showed this wasn't legit.
Hmmm good advice. Thank you.
Update. Of course, the company is not answering the telephone. When I call, I am placed on hold and no one comes to the phone. I am addressing this through my credit card company.
Thanks to all for the support.
Thank you.

Report them to your State Consumers Board. Then report them to your local BBB. They most likely won't do much, BUT they do keep track, and it gives them more info to track down these scammers. These things happen, in this world today it is so hard. You can also go online and in your search engine put the name of the company, and the word scam. Sometimes you get more information this way.
