It's possible that the amalgam is not sealing the tooth properly and that liquid is leaking inside the tooth, but I can't imagine that's the case with ALL of your fillings.

i've never heard of leaking fillings. what exactly does that mean? i would definitely get a second opinion.

I've had fillings replaced and glad I did so ~ no pain, no problem : )
Good luck to you ~

Whenever I have gone to a "new" dentist (after moving)...........they have all tried to "replace everything" in my mouth. Shop around for dentists. Don't "take their word"...........get another opinion. It would take me paragraphs to relate one indicent I had: To summarize, a periodontist told me I WOULD DIE unless I had surgery on my gums. He called my house repeatedly saying he had scheduled me for surgery. Well, I got another opinion (not telling the second dentist about the first one)...........and to this day...........15 years later, I did NOT (and do not) have any gum disease. Sure, "other old age dental challenges" -- but not life or death gum disease.

yes, the last 6 years, I have been getting my old silver fillings replaced with composite or crowns. many of my back teeth had to be crowned because I had such huge fillings. I have one dental implant because one of them actually cracked in half (I am a grinder)
I have one left to do - crown - next year. thank goodness. It is not painful, just a pain to set up the time and get it done.

I have had my dentist tell me one of my old fillings was "leaking" and needed to be replaced. He explained that the old filling was not sealing the hole in the tooth anymore therefore things could leak under the filling causing decay. I did not have a metal taste but unfortunately I had to have a cap since the old filling was too big to replace.

I am a grinder, too.
I am wearing my teeth down to nubs from all the grinding that I do.

@Plaid Pants2, This explains the fact that occasionally a filling might need to be replaced. But (just from my experience) if a new dentist thinks all or most of them need it I'd get another opinion as others have suggested.
