I recently purchased IPhone SE, I have no idea where that model falls on the new/old list.
I really like it. I am used to Apple products and was using a non apple phone. HUGE difference, I really like the phone.

Once you get anything Apple, you want everything Apple. Enjoy your new phone! And Tello looks like they have very good pricing.

The phone is refurbished. I don't need the "latest & greatest" with all of the newest bells & whistles.
I'm still playing with it, and figuring out all of the features.
So far, I think that I like it. 😊 👍
Well, you will likely get the "latest and greatest" whether you want them or not. Iphones support ongoing updates to their operating system and they do it for all their phones for a period of time.
You should look and see how many IOS updates an Iphone 8 is entitled to receive. Don't get used to what you have now, unless you plan on not upgrading the software ever. That's not a good look because software and the latest versions of the OS often fix critical issues.
All of this information can be found online.

I think you may have the generation 2 of the Iphone SE. I own that one as well. There will be a third. It is the lowest cost phone, but I got it, despite being and Android user (primarily). Apple supports its phone longer than Android does. That's why I wanted to try it. In other words while many manufacturers who use Android Software none of them will give you more than three software updates.

When security updates are no longer offered on older phones whether they are an apple or an android, at least on an android you are able to download anti virus protection. Apple doesn't allow 3rd party downloads to their products. Beware using your older iphone for banking as when their security updates stop for your model phone (incentivizes people to keep buying the latest one) it will not be protected from the latest hackers as well as harmful bugs.
Even though I have a 3rd party anti virus on my android, I still have never done banking from it but I would like to. That is one of the great things about having a new iphone.....too bad they deliberately stop the security updates as well as the software updates just to keep you buying expensive new ones. A relative of mine buys a new one every couple years and does all of their banking from it.

Regarding 5G, I have read that it only works outdoors. If you spend a lot of money for a 5G device it will automatically go to 4G inside your home, grocery store, hotel, etc. I think "they're" working on it but I have no idea the particulars. It certainly would make me angry to buy a $1,000 phone with the expectation you would have 5G all the time.

@agb80 You are correct. However, the Apple Store will allow you to download various apps for security purposes on your IPHONE too. While they don't typically let you do third party, they have parntered with some companies to ensure that you have availability to security software. Don't know if it's free or not. One of the ones you can download for Apple is McAfee. Norton and Avast Security apps are options in the Apple Store as well. There are likely others too. All it takes is a look at the Apple store.
My problem is that Android does not allow for operating system updates as often as Apple does. Apple supports their phones with updates for a far longer period of time than Android. I read somewhere that Samsung will allow up to three Android OS (Google) upgrades to the latest software. Iphone will push updates to your phone for at least 6 to 7 years. The older the phone, the less updates you'll get though with all phones. They want you to buy a new phone eventually.
The Google Pixel might be the only other Android phone with more updates than any other Android device. That's because Google is Android and so is the Pixel....

@Anonymous032819 Enjoy your "new" phone.
I do not get refurbished-I get the hand-me-downs from son and family. LOL
As soon as I get one, mine goes to my husband, although his latest one came from grandson. LOL
Androids, too.
For what we use them for-calls, text, taking pictures, and watching home security away from home-we don't bother with all the other "stuff".
