I think that's awful that citibank just didn't give you a 59 cent credit for that bill or even points to pay it
5.00 interest for 59 cents that is crazy both the customer service rep and her manager must be new

I used to be in banking. If it is a joint account you can most certainly deposit the check. As others have said, write for deposit only on the back with the account number.
If someone at the bank told you that you can't deposit it, I'd either ask the bank manager or ask if that is some state law where you live.

@Kachina624 not so easy here. DH was his brother's executor and the accounts have been closed as of Dec 30. We got a refund check from some business and our bank won't cash it. Ironically, both DH and his brother banked at the exact same branch. We thought they'd say no problem - not so.

Do you do other business with this agent? If so, then you might consider suggesting to him that if his company can't grease the skids a bit quicker you'll need to consider having your insurance needs met elsewhere. If you're like me, playing hardball isn't what one wants to do but lousy customer service sometimes forces us to do so.

You can deposit in your account. No big deal.

Did you check with bank to see whether you can deposit the check to the account that still have his name on it?

@CrazyKittyLvr2Something doesn't sound right. Have you talked to a manager at the bank? Since both names are on the account, there ought to be a way you can handle the check to get the funds.

That's exactly what I told my medical insurance co....it seemed things went more efficiently when we did things via paper and snail mail.....![]()

@Bridgegal .... Not true. Every state is different. As @Lipstickdiva said in the State of Ohio you legally cannot deposit the check. The banks are notified immediately of a death and in the two (2) cases I am familiar with the accounts were "frozen". Everyone should be aware of the laws in their state.
