I Don't Know About You, But I Can't Wait....

until I can sink my teeth into one of my own vine ripened tomatoes!!!  I bought 3 nice looking Roma tomatoes at the store and left them on the counter to ripen.  They looked ripe on the outside, but inside they are pink-----not red.  Oh, those wonderful tastes of summer fruit and vegetables are calling to me.

If I may share.

Tomatoes ripen from their gas.

When you want to ripen tomatoes,  put them in a paper (only) bag, close and leave a few days.  The flavor will begin to develop.   This is how farmers used ripen tomatoes.

Even better, put some self-rising flour in the paper bag with them and close it tight or put them in the bag with an apple.

I can't wait for a summer peach. I agree @ECBG  my family always put tomatoes in a paper bag to ripen.

I find that Roma tomatoes don't have the full-blown flavor of other varieties.

They don't have that acidic taste.  Nothing better than a very acidic tomato on 2 pieces of bread with some fried bacon and a little lettuce.  Ummm....good.  Tomatoes have 8 acids in them but only 2 (I think if I recall correctly) are the flavorful contributors but can also give you a little heartburn (but it's worth it).  Just keep the Maalox handy.

Peaches can ripen that way too, but go very, VERY fast!!!

I grew up on a very large farm surrounded by the Blue Ridge Parkway.

You are standing on the parkway looking down.

The open area below was our farm.  I used to ride up this mountain on my horse.

I love the Blue Ridge Parkway.  So majestic and mystifying about it.  (You know I would love to live in Asheville and I am smitten with the charm of Blowing Rock).

DH has his own computer company.  About 20 years ago,  he wired all of Chimney Rock for a young lady getting married on the rock.  Her grandmother was about to pass with cancer in California.

She got to see her grandaughter get married in real time.
