Every night at 10PM either my husband or I walk our dog, a 1 year old Rat Terrier. Tonight when I walked out I noticed there was a police car outside in the parking lot of our apartment complex and I understand that routine patrols are done. I really thought nothing of this. That is until I was walking the dog a little further in the complex and the officer pulls me aside. Then he asks why I am walking the dog at this hour and I answered that we normally do this. He then questioned her dog license. It will expire at the end of the month, but I've also sent in for her 2011 license this week. He also asked for ID and I told him that I did not carry it just to walk the dog at night, and it was home if he needed to see it.
I never left the apartment complex and don't see the need for all these questions. They do these patrols on a regular basis and only tonight were any questions asked. I felt actually worse for the dog, as she's a rescue and tends to be afraid of new people at first. Still reeling a bit..........
