Re: I Can't Bring Myself To Go In That Store

@kitcat51   Huh !!  I certainly don't see myself as part of the tragedy.

I can go up and down the aisles and imagine the horror of that night

I suppose it depends on what you have already witnessed.  Back in 2005 I watched from  my 10th floor office window the shooting outside the courthouse doors.  An ex-husband shot and killed his ex-wife, wounded his oldest son with a bullet,  shot and killed an innocent bystander and wounded one of the courthouse deputies.  It was like watching a movie.  It was just minutes prior to their court hearing about his non payment of child support for the youngest son.  The father escaped in his truck but police barricaded him on the road  and he jumped from his truck firing his weapon.  He was then killed by the officers.  He planned this thing out even down to the bullet proof vest he was wearing.

That little boy in school had to learn both parents dead and his big brother shot over a child support payment.

I would have no problem shopping there.  It happened so long ago I wouldn't even think about it.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 I can understand it bothering you 8 months after but now it's been almost 5 years. I would give it another try, but that's me and no it wouldn't keep me out of the store.

We have a Weis near me, but I no longer shop in supermakets.  I just do Instacart.  Weiss doesn't do instacart,  you need Shipt in order to shop there.  There is a Giant too, and they are amost a clone of Weiss.  What they have, Giants has.  That's where I do some food shopping through instacart.

Re: I Can't Bring Myself To Go In That Store

You are having symptoms of post-traumatic stress. You do not have to be witness of the event . Just watching it over and over on TV can be stressful, or if it's something that happened in your local area.

It is a common reaction to a traumatic event. If it's causing you any other disruptions in your  life you might want to consider therapy to help ease the trauma. If not and you don't mind traveling to shop elsewhere you found a solution.

Be kind to yourself it's OK. Hopefully talking about it here will help you.

It wouldn't bother me to go in the store!

Re: I Can't Bring Myself To Go In That Store

The only experience I had was applying at a company.  It made paint.  When I entered the building, I had to be buzzed in a total of 3 times.  The security was unbelievable.  I never did get the job, but I talked to my husband about it.  He told me about 3 years earlier, a fired employee of the paint company shot and killed 4 people before turning the gun on himself.  That was so strange.  Then I understood the security.  But it I had knewn ahead of time that is was the same company, I don't think I would have applied

Re: I Can't Bring Myself To Go In That Store

@manny2   No, I don't have PTSD.  A family of 3 I knew was murdered many years ago less than 2 miles from where I am sitting now. I drive by there weekly and don't think about it.

A man who worked at a store in my small town killed his 8 yr.old DD and then himself. I drive by where he worked and his home, not a thought.

When I visit my BIL in the house where I grew up I'm good even though, my one grandfather, both parents and my sister died

in that house.

I assume it is the idea of being trapped in store with no way out.
