Just received an email from our HOA. They will start giving out $25/day fines for yards and houses not kept up to the HOA standards. Even things such as lawn care and mulch, etc. With all that's going on in the world right now....businesses closing, people loosing their jobs...do you think they're big concern is if their mulch looks okay?

That's why I would never buy a house that has an HOA --- they're like the gestapo.

I'm going to be moving into a community with an HOA, but all of the outside maintenance is provided.
unless it's included, I gave to agree that they should be giving some leeway these days

@ScrapHappy. Wow. Sounds like some heartless people running you HOA. Given everything going on in the world today, you would think they'd be offering help to homeowners. Maybe their greed to collect fines is more important than showing compassion.

So someone could be an EMT, nurse or even a burned out parent trying to educate their disabled child, and not having enough mulch around their trees should be a priority? That letter from your homeowners association is a tragedy in itself. How selfish of them. So what if a dandelion pokes it nose out of the ground!

I'd be sending them an email with my opinion.

The timing is odd, that is for sure. Could it have been prompted by neighbors who have been consistently ignoring the standards and have finally broken the camel’s back, so to speak?

@kivah I'm with you about never living where there is an HOA.
There are times when I think for one tiny second it would be nice when I look over and see where neighbors have put up chicken coops in their front yard....(we have 1 acre lots).
But then I decide I'd rather live with that instead of the alternative....HOA's.
Side note: It's terrible because over and over the fox's just love getting into the coops and helping themselves to the poor caged in chickens.
How much does a dozen eggs cost at the store?

That does seem like very stupid timing to be worried about yards, with this nationwide crisis... Someonerunning that show is definitely OCD-

Maybe because long grass invites snakes?
More than likely someone has complained.
