Re: I Can't Believe What My HOA Just Did

I'm not sure if I would want my neighborhood to suddenly

have unkept grounds.  That's something a homeowner

agrees to when purchasing a home.

Many people have lawnmowers...why would it be an issue now?

@ScrapHappy I live in a non-HOA neighborhood where most of us have weekly or bi-weekly gardeners.  During the Stay at Home period which is now in effect until early May for us, they are considered non-essential workers and will get fined if they do our yard maintenance.  Most of us are still paying them but just telling them to skip the maintenance.

Being outside is encouraged therefore if you are responsible for maintaining your lawn, then you have to do it or hire a lawn service.

OR you have a "good ole boys" mentality running your HOA.

I will probably get snarky comments but I am on our BOD and most think because they "pay a HOA fee" this relieves them of responsibility to maintain their properties.

Our community has lawn service weekly.  there are things for lawn maintenance they do not do under the terms of their contract.  Living in a HOA has many rules which are in place for the betterment of your community.

We removed by vote all the previous BOD who were "good ole boys" in office for 15+ years & thought they were "sheriffs".  They would actually send notices for minor things, went on properties for inspections, and general harassment of owners😡😡😡😡.

I would call the person who issued the violation (most likely a BOD) and find out their reasoning.  Apparently, it seems this was "blanket letter" sent to everyone vs. just you.  If you're not "guilty" then leave it be.

We have a Community Manager thru a property management company who issues our violations based on our Community regulations and they are not issued unless a major infraction.  The violation is reviewed by the BOD to ensure its that major to cause homeowner to be defensive.

Good luck!

Re: I Can't Believe What My HOA Just Did

With so little front property in most HOA neighborhoods is there a problem with people maintaining their yards?  I agree it is a worrisome time.  But I would assume those that keep their home tidy wouldn't have a problem   Be grateful  I live in California.  The city code in our city does nothing or little to anyone who lets their home fall into blight.  We have neighbors with a 60 year old shake roof with holes in roof that they cover with hefty trash bags and weigh down with bricks. A front hard that is a field of weeds and broken cement. Gutters hanging to ground for years  Homes with broken down cars in front yard which used to be a lawn, homes with no lawns, dead trees, , cars and weeds hip high.

#1 - I would have never given them my email addy from jump street.  ALL correspondence must be by snail mail.

#2 - I would mark their emai addy as "spam" & claim I never received it.

@kivah

Seems if you live in a HOA Community your BOD is not following the guidelines of monthly accounting and statement to homeowners.

Our homeowners know every month the expenditures and ending balance of our accounts.  It is your right as a homeowner.

The BOD also has a general meeting bi-monthly for all homeowners. Every month a newsletter is prepared and distributed outlining what's going on in our Community.

If you are are concerned, I would suggest contacting your Management Company Property Manager and request a copy of the financials.

Maybe the homeowner is ill?

That’s interesting. All of the grass cutters and gardeners around here are working as usual.  I guess the thinking is that they are working outside and not interacting with anyone. My grass was cut today, and I left his check under the door mat.

Just received an email from our HOA.  They will start giving out $25/day fines for yards and houses not kept up to the HOA standards.  Even things such as lawn care and mulch, etc.  With all that's going on in the world right now....businesses closing, people loosing their jobs...do you think they're big concern is if their mulch looks okay?
