I ordered a torch light that is LED and just has to be charged. Suppose to be a very bright light.

I also ordered a BB/pellet combo pump rifle so I can do either or. I will feel better having some sort of protection for inside and out. When I went to the Doctor yesterday he had bought one because squirrels were nesting in his attic and he had to trim all the branches away from his house. This particular gun got good reviews and I asked a lot of questions. It comes with bb and pellets and everything I should need. I'm hoping a neighbor will show me how to load it and pump it.

I was surprised so many people owned a BB gun. I would love to have these 2 brown kitties come back to eat so maybe I will try food in the daytime. We'll see how brave I get again.

The ammonia smell doesn't last long enough.

I don't know why anyone would encourage you to buy a BB rifle. They can be deadly. This boy died from a bb gun injury

Re: I Am Being Invaded by Raccoons and Very Afraid

Sadly, the boy died because his brother shot him in the chest @ close range; pretty much a poster worthy example of improper usage of the gun. However, luvmyteddy is an older, responsible adult living alone with a deaf, older dog, and is looking for something to run off pesky wildlife that was trying to invade her home. A world of difference in circumstances and determining criteria; I don't see an issue with her ordering the pellet rifle.

I grew up in a house with many guns; never, ever, ever thought about messing with one of them without my Dad's direction. My girls grew up around guns in this house; they never, ever touched the guns. We also kept all the ammunition locked up, so there was never any access to a loaded gun. Both girls started hunting when they were in high school, and had to take a state approved hunter safety course before they could obtain a hunting license; they now have lifetime hunting licenses, and each owns several guns. I totally agree that guns are deadly; they are meant to be, but the real problem is in unsafe handling by the person pulling the trigger. BB and pellet guns have a safety button, and will not accidentally discharge if that button is engaged. Our pellet rifle is always loaded and ready to go, safety button engaged, and the gun is stored on top of a cabinet; even though we have no young children coming into the house.

Do you think she should take safety lessons?

Thanks, RedTop. I get the flashlight and gun tomorrow. I believe it said up to 50 yards but was wondering how many feet is that? I think it depends on how much you pump it.

I probably will never use it unless I am attacked but I will feel safer just knowing I have something.

If I saw another raccoon I would probably run for the hills, but you have to remember I got my last kitty this way and he is the best kitty ever. I would love to feed some others minus the raccoons.

I use to own a 12 gauge shotgun back in the day.

Re: I Am Being Invaded by Raccoons and Very Afraid

Interesting topic. I've also been besieged by raccoons twice in the past two weeks. I think someone around here is feeding ferals (suburbs).

We've had raccoons around here for years. They pop up out of the drainage system. They use the drains as their little freeway system. They are getting bolder, though, and twice now, I've gone onto my balcony and come face-to-face with raccoons in the tree. I grabbed a broom and tried to push them out. {#emotions_dlg.laugh} They growled at me, no fear at all. And bright lights don't seem to do much.

Over 10 years ago, a neighbor's cat was killed by a raccoon. The cat survived the clawing, but caught hepatitis (?).

If they don't clear out in a day or two, call a professional wildlife removal company. These critters can be vicious and can carry diseases, including rabies. And they often tear their way into walls or attics.

If I were you, I'd never feed a pet or feral outside, ever again!

You are right they have no fear. The growling and hissing is bad and the 6 did not back off for any reason. My cat was in the window and he had no fear but he wouldn't stand a chance, they are saying it's one of the worst years for hunger and no water. The trapper asked me if I watered the grass and I said no. I hit my leg on a trap and hurt it on some wire. I am keeping an eye on it for a MERSA infection which I had have before.

If I see that Sears optical commercial one more time I will scream. Kids are going to think they are like a kitty cat. I have seen them in daylight too. They are getting braver and braver.

Did the cat die?
