It looks like S. Florida and the coastline will be hit. Very worried. Will put my shutters up, lower pooll, pull in all the patio furniture, get PB&J and pray. When Wilma hit I was literally under my bed for 8 hours and then no power for 10 days. Fortunately, I didn't own a home at that time so I wasn't as worried about damage because it wasn't mine. Now, I am really worried because this is a big one and I don't know how well my home will hold up in this catastrophy.
They better let us out of work to do what we need to do!
I am a woman by myself and it gets very scary at times like this.

We're on a coastal island off the GA coast, so we're watching Matthew closely.
DH fired up the generator today to make sure it's working fine. Hoping we don't have to evacuate!

@nycgrl FL is extremely well versed in prep. They'll let you do what you need to do. Charge everything and if you still have a radio with batteries, best thing ever in a hurricane in case power is out a while. It was my lifeline during Andrew.
And, if you have a car, don't forget you can charge off your car charger too if you are allowed to stay in your home. You'll be fine and don't worry too much about property. That can eventually be replaced if necessary. You can't. ![]()

Be safe and move it if you got to go. ![]()
Actually, I'd be hitting the liquor store now. I think I'm too far inland in North Georgia to be affected which is a shame because we need the rain but don't be shy about starting the party bus along the hurricane evacuation route if you need to.

@Laura14 - Yup - charging up everything, computers, tablets, phones, halos. Have a tiny 5 inch battery operated TV - not sure it even still works - it's been a long time since I needed it. Shutters up today or tomorrow. Lots to do. This is the scariest one yet for me and I was only by myself for Wilma and that was BAD. This time being alone in a house is nervewracking - to say the least.
Still hoping and praying it veers further east so none of us are impacted. A direct hit would be catastophic.

@nycgrl It's great that you are on it. Listen to your local authorities. Really listen and you'll be fine.
If you live anywhere near the coast, I personally would never stay for anything above a two in my home especially on my own. I'm a single girl too and Andrew was enough of a lesson for me. Even all these years later, I have full on MAJOR respect for hurricaines.
I'm originally from Jersey and I thought I would watch the big bad storm outside my first time. When the big bad storm starting bending glass windows, it was time to go, except, it's too late and you're stuck for hours hoping and praying you'll outlive it. Please don't do that. You've already been scared so I know I'm preaching to the choir but leave the stuff and protect you. That's all you got to do.
Fingers crossed you get a reprieve and Matthew comes to scare us here in GA instead.

@Laura14 - I am 5 to 10 miles from A1A (ocean). Not far inland, but not in an evacuation zone either. I have hurricane shutters that are in compliance with Miami-Dade County Code. My roof was put on in 2008 (due to a hurricane) - way before I purchased the home. I would never leave since I have pets. There is no where to run to and I don't want to. I believe deep down it will be OK. I know this sounds absolutely crazy, but I found a big feather at my door yesterday. And yes, I do believe in those "signs".

I watched the ABC news channel in Sarasota this morning and they said it is veering toward the east today and they don't expect it to directly hit any of the USA, just to skirt along east of the coast. This is the same as my friend in Hilton Head was told there.

We are prepared. We survived Hurricane Andrew with no damage and I thought I would never see this city look the same again in my lifetime. It was THAT bad. Not only did we survive, but the city was rebuilt and looks better than it ever did.
We'll close the shutters if we have to. Right now, it looks as though we are out of the cone, but things change hourly. Time will tell......
