Part of Haiti, which has been through so much in recent years, and is largely deforested, will be getting 25 inches of rain in addition to a storm surge.  And the strongest winds.

For Florida and the US this is the forecast, but a few days out [National Weather Advisory]:

Direct hurricane impacts are possible in Florida later this
week. Tropical storm and/or hurricane watches are likely tomorrow
morning for portions of the Florida peninsula and the Florida Keys.

3. Tropical storm or hurricane conditions could affect portions of
Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina later this week or this
weekend, even if the center of Matthew remains offshore. It is too
soon to specify what, if any, direct impacts Matthew might have on
the remainder of the U.S. east coast farther north. At a minimum,
very dangerous beach and boating conditions are likely along much of
the U.S. east coast later this week and weekend.

Me resuming:  there is an expected turn to the north that might still happen, I hope so for all in the path (including me).

I never listen to TV news, whose only goal is to scare everyone enough that they will tune in.  The US has a weather advisory service, a bit more relevant.

The as yet unknown factor is how far west a huge area of convection, not connected to the original hurricane, will push the hurricane.  The area of convection is to the east, pushing the system west.

I was in first grade ,October 5, 1954,when hurricane Hazel tore through NC.. Destruction was massive and many lives lost. We didn't worry about bread and milk in those days and I'm paying close attention to the tracking of Matthew. Seems to be similar pattern as Hazel
. Praying it turns quickly out to sea.
