Re: Hurricane Isaias and Floridians

[ Edited ]

It's a very common name here in South Texas. Prounounced E-SA-E-US

Praying for all who are in his path. Please safe and don't take it lightly. That was me last week with Hanna. Take care.

The pronunciation is like the name of the Old Testament prophet Isaiah. (eye-zae-uh)

@Marp   I already posted that.  Eyes on your own paper, please.  lol

@Cakers3,  okay for now, no paper peeping.  I am, however, jumping ahead to the next tongue twister name which isn't until 2023!  I'm practicing now to properly pronounce Idalia ee-DAL-ya.

Most of the names on the linked guide are readily known.

@ThinkingOutLoud   Isaiah is of Hebrew origin.

Isaias is of Spanish/Portugese origin and is not pronounced the same way.

Re: Hurricane Isaias and Floridians

I am in NE Florida, just north of Daytona, bringing stuff from outside in today, didn't have much out there to begin with.  My supplies are stocked due to COVID, gas tanks are full, electronics are charged.  Planning on doing laundry in the Sunday morning before any power goes out.

I tried to pronounce this one a couple of times, now I just simply refer to it as "The storm"

The next 8 weeks are peak hurricane season so here we go.

Re: Hurricane Isaias and Floridians

Phonetically, it’s pronounced ees-ah-EE-ahs. There are different ways to pronounce Isaias but for the sake of a named storm, the National Hurricane Center has informed meteorologists this pronunciation will be the standard.

@Cakers3

I haven’t heard any news yet today but, from the last I heard yesterday, the hurricane is likely to head up along the east coast. I’m in the middle of the state and we are expecting a rainy day tomorrow but that is all. No prep necessary for me since I live in an apartment with no outdoor space. I’ve always got gallons of water & batteries on hand.
