I don't blame you.  I wouldn't want that smell on me either!

I smelled like onions or BO months before I ever found out it actually had onion extract in it.

@monicakm   The smell sounds worrisome to me.  There was an article in the NY Times recently about surgery cars.  It states that If an incision smells bad during the first six to eight weeks after surgery, it’s possible there is an infection, either in the wound itself, or the tissue surrounding it.  They recommended to check with the doctor.

Of course, if the smell went away when you stopped the Mederma, maybe there is nothing to worry about.  I didn't realize your surgery was months ago.  Time goes fast...

I know cleaning and massaging surgery wounds is highly recommended.  My doctor said to use vitamin E oil, pure.  I used a bottle with dropper.

Onions?!  The PA in my ortho's office recommended it after my surgery.  I am allergic to onions!  And I itched like crazy about 5 minutes after using it.

I know it's not the same as an open heart surgery scar, but I had a breast biopsy several years ago.  I don't remember doing anything for the scar.  Not like anyone was going to see it anyways except my husband and doctors.  I can no longer find it.  In fact, I keep forgetting which breast it was, but a couple of years ago the lady doing my mammogram was able to see it, so that she could mark it for the mammogram.  I guess they don't do that for the 3D ones though which I get now.

Thank you.  DH takes Vit E capsules.  I've been using those along with skincare that is good for surgical scars including Retinol, Glycolic Acid, Niacinamide and Vit C.

I'm not overly concerned about the part of the scar that can't been seen by the general public but I might as well treat it while I'm treating the part that can be seen by others.  Every shirt I own shows the scar that is basically even with my collar bones in height.
