Does US import pork from China?
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, Chinese imports of pork from the United States more than tripled from 23.4 to 93.4 million pounds from January 2019 to August 2019, with the imports generally increasing throughout this period.Oct 14, 2019

It is illegal to import pork products from countries, like China, that are positive for African swine fever (ASF), a disease that only affects pigs and that poses no human health or food safety risks, to the United States. “Preventing the spread of African swine fever to the United States is our top priority.Mar 20, 2019

If I post a link to this story from Bloomberg.dot.com (also published in today's Atlanta metro newspaper)  it will get poofed.

However...........

If  anyone is interested in finding out about meat we import from other countries, do a google search for a recent story about global meat giant company JBS, which says it is  ready to help fill the gap in U.S. meat and poultry supplies.

The shortage is attributed to the corona virus that has sickened some workers and shut down meat and poultry processing plants.

JBS already operates in the U.S. and many other countries.

Very interesting information, considering how some posters on these threads  openly believe in and strongly object to the very false notion that the U.S. imports its pork from China, which the U.S. definitely does not.

It might be a surprise to learn how much other protein we actually do import, even from more than one Brazilian company.

One beef company spokesman is quoted as saying U.S. beef inventory is  only enough for about 15 days.

Bull, President told them they couldn't close down.  Maybe in the big cities where people have started hoarding and filling freezers guess they eat a lot.

Where I live I can't tell the difference . No panic here.

Re: Huge Brazil meat company says it can help fill U.S. supply gap

one of the reasons I don't eat pork  I've been trying every year to eat less meat

Pork Industry Admits Using Muscle Stimulant Ractopamine

Ractopamine Impacts State, Co. Fairs

Because China and other countries will not accept pork imports that test positively for ractopamine –an FDA-approved muscle-growth additive sold commercially as Paylean, Optaflexx and by other names—the response has varied from outright bans to arrangements being made for having pigs processed only for local markets.

The Ohio State Fair will require its exhibitors to show only ractopamine-free pigs and is advising county fairs in its state to do the same. Indiana, however, will not follow suit, according to Courtney Stierwalt, the 4-H animal science youth development specialist for Purdue University Extension.

Re: Huge Brazil meat company says it can help fill U.S. supply gap

I don't see China anywhere on the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture list of countries "eligible" to export meat and poultry products to the U.S.

Maybe some facts are missing somewhere.
