The Big Boy across the way was my favorite for a burger and fries. Howie had a Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes that I liked.

We only went to HoJo when we were traveling and it was usually for breakfast. I remember getting their corn cakes with my eggs. You could also buy them from the freezer case there and take them home. I also remember the chicken pot pie for dinner once but I can't stand fried clams even though they were famous for them.

DH & I used to go to Hojo's for their Ice cream sundaes & ice cream soda's. They were the best!! Sometimes on Fridays we would go for their fish fry.

OMG.  My grandparents took me there!  We had the sodas or root beer floats.  And I do remember those fried clams and hot turkey sandwiches.

Great memories!

On travels from NY to MA, on 95N we would always stop at HOJOs and always left with an ice cream cone which had a triangular shape scoop.  That ice cream sat so high up on the cone, Strawberry was my favorite.  I know we ate food too but for me, as a kid, it was all about the ice cream cone.  We had a very small freezer in our fridge so ice cream was never readily available.  It was a special treat back then.  Of course, jimmies included.

@QVCkitty1  Howard Johnsons was the first place I ever had fried clams! I went with my mother and her next door neighbor and her son. He ordered clams and talked me into it.
I usually got clams and peppermint ice cream in the silver type dish. Theirs was the best!
As a child I liked the Simple Simon menu, there were cute drawings in it.

OMG I haven't thought about them in years. We used to call it Ho Jo's. Loved the fried clams and their ice cream

I only have more general memories of Howard Johnson's when my dad was taking the family to "see the USA" (but not in a Chevrolet.) I remember that they had good fried fish and delicious ice cream. Thank you for the nostalgic post.
