Re: How would you feel about this scenario?

if I wanted to celebrate my birthday, it would be fun to invite my friends and I would love to treat them for just being good friends

Re: How would you feel about this scenario?

An elderly lady in a nursing home who needs a walker gave a lot of herself & meant well. Common sense anybody would have some of their own money or CC when going out like that imho Glad the lady can't read this thread

Jules--a very happy birthday to you. Celebrate tomorrow exactly like you want to.

I don't think that saying fits here WADR. I'll say what I said before. An elderly lady in a nursing home who needs a walker gave a lot of herself & meant well. How does that make her not a good & kind friend? Still glad the lady can't read this thread

ohhh...the lady lives in a nursing home? I for some reason thought she met her there , as in, maybe she worked there or was visiting a relative.

okay........a friend didn't want you to spend your birthday by yourself.......so she did the best she could and gave you the most valuable present... her time.......what difference in the long run of things if you had to pay part of the bill for lunch........this woman, who does not sound like she is in the best of health, went to the effort to get herself ready.......which I don't imagine is an easy thing to do with a walker in tow.........wanted to up the lunch by having lunch at Applebees instead of iHOP...........lets face it, that 20 would have covered lunch there........and did her best effort to show YOU that you are important in her life.........important enough not to have you spend your birthday alone................dunno.............I still think there's a lot of wisdom in the sentence.......it's the thought that counts.......................................raven

The trouble is, raven, it wasn't all that thoughtful. It was the friend's idea in the 1st place, & she offered to treat. What if Jules had brought no money along, assuming it was truly going to be a treat? That would've been embarrassing!

I disagree...........the original venue was iHOP, and let's face it, that 20 would have paid the bill there, no problem........the venue changed when the other lady had other plans........the woman probably thought she would have enough with the other person not there and wanted to make the lunch nice for Jules........and she probably felt bad for Jules because of the other woman bowing out........ so she switched to Applebees, not knowing she wouldn't have enough money to be able to do what she wanted to do for Jules........what is being missed is.............the woman is not in good health and probably doesn't have alot, if much, money at all............what she does have, she wanted to spend on Jules.........that's A LOT for someone on a limited income........it's speaks volumes on Jules importance in this woman's life.......and that's being missed.........like voyager, I hope the lady doesn't read here, her heart would probably be broken................................................raven
