The squirrel could have drowned. Hope whoever filmed it didn't let him suffer for too long--the poor thing was probably scared.

Oh my gosh! Day before yesterday, I wandered into the back yard just in time to notice a squirrel desperately trying to find a way to get out the pool....he was so tired of swimming I think he would have been a goner, had I not seen him and grabbed the net and got him out ! Poor guy took quite a while to calm down before he could finally scamper away 😧

Not all squirrels can swim, and you have to be able to get out of the pool when you are tired even if you can swim.
