We are heartbroken that we lost our basset hound (Buddy) last Wednesday. He was eleven years old and even though we feel lucky to have had him for that long, we just wasn't ready to let him go. Our german shepherd (Sarge), who we got at the same time we got Buddy, seems lost and so sad. He is not eating and he just wants to lay around. We are spending as much time with him as we can, but it doesn't seem to help. They have been with each other everyday for 11 years. They slept together, played together and I know it might sound a little crazy, but Sarge (who is partially blind) relied so much on Buddy. Sarge started having seizures about a year and a half ago, they are now under control with medicine, but he never returned to the way he was before and I think Buddy made him feel safe. So many times you hear of dogs dying of a broken heart and just don't want that to happen to Sarge. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions that maybe worked for them?
