My guess is that she is doesn't really want the the interview, or the job. She is likely collecting unemployment income and is not allowed to refuse an interview to keep collecting her money. I have heard this happens fairly frequently, although usually for lower wage jobs. If she is offered a job fairly comparable to what she had, she is not allowed to turn it down. If she wants to sit home and collect unemployment she has to make herself undesirable to anyone showing interest. Just a guess, but that is what I think is going on here.

Ah, yes, of course. I once had an applicant call me, ask a few questions about the posted postion, then clearly indicated that she was only calling to be able to mark it down as a job contact for her unemployment. No wonder the system's so clogged with abusers.

I think that's the exception rather than the rule. There are many people on unemployment who are not just happy to be there. Unemployment isn't permanent and it isn't a lot of money. Most people would rather be working.

Maybe she is going to bring you Easter candy. That was her excuse, right? Easter shopping.

Fraud is, sadly, running rampant. It started early with Medicare/Medicaid, and it has expanded ever since. I've heard from a reliable source that there may be over half a trillion that's tossed away every year through fraud and waste. In Atlanta, you have people driving luxury cars selling their food stamps for cash. Oy.

Where do you get the substantiation for this statement? Just curious.

After I retired and moved to the shore to be closer to three of my girls who still lived there (only one remains there), I realized I still had to have an income for lots a reasons I won't go into. The first job I called about was some distance away, but it sounded interesting.

I have a very young voice for my age, so I called and we made an appointment for the interview. He was a lawyer and I was very familiar with working in law offices, so I thought my resume would look acceptable. It had been 24 years since I had interviewed for a job, as that is how long I worked for the CPA firm I retired from.

This guy was frank and to the point. Within five minutes, he said "You present yourself well, and you have a lot of experience . . . in fact, too much. I hate to say it, but I doubt you will find a job anywhere."

I said nothing, as I felt my face go red and the tears ready to pop. I just got up from the chair and left his office. And cried half the way home.

I know what I should have said, but this guy left me speechless.

Ford, back in the day, it was assumed that employers were always seeking the best candidate possible ..... Nowadays, it's clear that they don't expect much from anyone they hire! {#emotions_dlg.unsure}

There is a new show on TVLAND called "Younger". It is about a 40 year old woman, newly divorced looking for a job with a publishing company. She had experience in that field. She was being interviewed by two women in their 20's. She did not get the job. She realized she has to pass herself off as 26, change her clothes etc to be hired.

I haven't even interviewed the candidate yet and I already know, I won't hire her. She looks good on paper but she's already proven that she's not responsible or dependable. We arranged to interview her almost two weeks ago; she requested an early morning interview and we set it up for 8am. She called at 7:55 to say that she was "running late" and couldn't make it before 9am. At 9:10 she called and asked if we could reschedule the interview, preferably after 4pm. I wasn't thrilled but we rescheduled to this afternoon @ 5pm. At 4:45, she called to say that she couldn't make it because....because....she has to do some Easter shopping for her children. She really said that! She acted like it was no big deal. So, I rescheduled her interview for tomorrow at 4:30. Maybe she'll show up, maybe she won't. I don't care. It's now just a formality, I'll talk to her for 15 minutes and send her on her way. Obviously, she isn't terribly interested in the job and I'm not at all interested in her. People never fail to amaze me....

Chrystaltree....so how did it go? Did you like her? Did you offer her a job?? {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: How to ensure that you do not get the job.....

Wow. I wouldn't have bothered to reschedule her after the first time. It's one thing if something disastrous happens, but just because she was running late? Who wants an employee like that? If she doesn't take being punctual seriously for the interview, she won't take it seriously if by some miracle she were to actually get the job. Since you took the trouble to reschedule her interview, I'd spend my time not interviewing her but doing her a favor and explaining to her why she wouldn't be getting this job. But honestly, I wouldn't have even bothered to reschedule her. Is your time not valuable? Why waste it on her?
