Re: How smart do you think you are?

I was born just when Truman took the Presidency.  I remember him vaguely but I really remember Ike.  I do remember his inauguration and even remember when Queen Elizabeth was coronated.  When I was in high school I had a fun debate with one of my male classmates about John Kennedy.  He was for Nixon.  It was in our American History class.  We had to memorize all the presidents in order in my American History class. That was quite a feat.

Re: How smart do you think you are?

The first President I remember was Eisenhower, although Truman was in office when I was born in 48. We got our first television around 1954 and I remember seeing Ike talking on TV and also the presidential election on TV that year. I'll never ever forget those horrible days in November 1963, as we watched events unfold right in front of our eyes, including Jack Ruby murdering Lee Oswald. Those were some very dark and sad days for our country.

Re: How smart do you think you are?

I had a President spoon set.  It was displayed on the wall in the dining room in a spoon rack.  Inside a door on my hutch was a listing of Presidents, starting with Washington.  I use to be able to polish them, they were silver, and put them back in order.   If it was a time when I had "help", I asked the girl to please look at the list!  I do not have this set anymore, I got old and downsized, too much work.  I believe my grandmother started collecting them from soap or cereal. I went to antique and flee markets to complete plus bought the newer ones.

Re: How smart do you think you are?

I was born in 1954, so I was pretty young and remember when Eisenhower was President.

My father was a small time politician and he was very involved with what was going on in our country and in our state.

I personally have met senators and representatives, all from one party, as they visited with my father at our kitchen table.

I went to Catholic school and often wore campaign pins that were given out near election times pinned to my uniform.

When my mother and then my father passed away, many of these politicians,  active and retired, showed up at our church to offer their condolences.

I remember every President from Eisenhower forward.

I have never met any of our presidents in person, but my hubby has. He has a picture of the older President George HW Bush posing beside him at our local airport.

My hubby was a police offIcer and escorted him from the airport to wherever he was going, along with the secret service and several members of the state police.

President Bush was a tall man and my DH looks a little short standing next to him.  The picture was send to him from the White House staff and has the president's signature along with a short note on the bottom.

@Carmie   My son met and posed for a photograph with George HW. My son and select colleagues were invited to luncheon with the President...they all sat at the same table. Pretty exciting for a young man to meet a former President.

Re: How smart do you think you are?

@CatsyCline     I am pretty sure George HW Bush was the vice president when my DH met him.

I'll have to check with my husband to be sure.  I remember that my husband said he was a nice man and down to earth.

How exciting for your son to have had lunch with him.  Something I am sure he will never forget.

Re: How smart do you think you are?

With so many books penned abt  many of our US Presidents , one learns in the end they are all human with their own strengths and  short commings .  No President was ever a  perfect person  because  no human is perfect  .
