Re: How's your electric bill?

[ Edited ]

@Mindy D  Funny you should ask. We had all of our children and grandchildren (plus one dog) at our house for a full week during one of our very hot weeks in July. They are used to keeping their houses at 70 degrees, so we lowered our AC temp. Well, at the end of the week, PECO (Philly Electric Co.) sent us an email and text warning we should check our system for some kind of leak. They had detected an unusually high usage and were sure there was something radically wrong. Hahaha! The bill ended up to be at least twice our usual costs. It was something over $400.

Ours was high - double.  No surprise since it's California.

An increase of 40.00 since last month. Central air set to 78 degrees. Rates have increased but temperatures are definitely warmer this time of year.

Re: How's your electric bill?

My electric bill is always higher in the winter than the summer, even with extended 100 degree temperatures.

Re: How's your electric bill?

Mine was $145 for July which is not bad considering how hot it was (NJ).  That's  electric only.  I keep it at 76 most of the time.

Stove, hot water and dryer are gas which comes on a separate bill-- different supplier.

I have a very large house and a guesthouse and the animals.....my bill is the lowest in

summer ,around $400, and in winter, with gas heat, around $800. I live in NJ.

ETA.  I completely forgot about the pool an the yard and the cost of everything that goes with it ! I am sure that uses a lot.......Since I am not home in the summer, I use no a/c . Larry has a window

a/c that he uses at nights when necessary.

Up $20 because of air conditioner. From usual $58 to $78.

Up. Like EVERYthing.

I'm 100% electric too.

I'm in CT. Eversource sent out a notice last fall to say winter charges would be up, I forget how much but I think it was 60%.

Then in March we got a notice saying summer it would be going down, however my summer a/c costs are about $50-$60 up from my average.

I did put in a split heat/ac unit to service the whole main condo (open floor plan, cathedral ceilings, 1050 sq ft total), which used to be heated with old, inefficient radient heating & a box a/c. The heating was terrible, inefficient and extremely expensive (without really heating the unit properly.) So heat costs were much better, for me, last year, but that's as compared to my malfunctioning system before.

They were still higher last year because my neighbor had his unit in before me and previous winter his heating was lower, than ours was last year.

My summers were always cheaper, avg costs were between $75.00 mo. to $85.00, running all hot summer with the box units ...this year a/c's been $135-$145 avg a month.

That's just due to Eversource's increases not my change of a/c system.

Thank God I put that in last year, my old heating system would have been outrageous last year, although, thankfully we've had two mild winters!

Re: How's your electric bill?

Our bill was the highest it has ever been, just under $300...we keep our shutters closed and that helps...our thermostat is set at 77, the absolute highest we can stand it. Our a/c has not shut off since the first week of June. 102-107 everyday since then. Not upset about the bill, just thankful we have a working a/c. It only goes down to mid 80's at night.

We filled ours in back in 2011 and couldn't be happier. We save over $250 a month on our electric bill just by not having ye ole money pit in the back yard.
