From The Washington Post July 6, 2023
"Florida is in the midst of its hottest year in modern history, and there’s little sign of meaningful relief. Even in a state known for its warm weather, the prolonged siege of heat and humidity is extreme.
So far this year, temperatures have averaged 3 to 5 degrees above normal in the Sunshine State. Some of the warmth is attributable to a very warm Gulf of Mexico, linked to record-warm oceans worldwide. And in recent weeks, a sprawling heat dome over the state has regularly produced heat indexes — a measure of how hot it feels factoring in humidity — of 100 to 110 degrees or even higher."

Florida isn't that bad. Many of us here from the MD/DC area believe it's cooler here than back east; we definitely do. Now Texas, Arizona....FAR FAR worse than Florida right now. Hugs to those living and dealing with horrific temps.

Just got my current electric bill & my usage for the last month was $327, but since I'm on a budget plan, my current bill is $122. The cost kind of fluctuates a bit thru the year to settle up for how much of how little power I've used. I have a 1700 sq. ft. house in Tucson, AZ & keep my thermostat set 24/7 at 74°. I have a gas furnace, range & water heater, so most my my electric bill is for cooling. I have ceiling fans in all 3 bedrooms & also in my great room.
My AC unit is a 2 stage unit that pulls less power when it's not as hot & more when more cooling is needed. It's been disgustingly hot here of late with a record amount of 110° days, so my power bill will reflect that.

I live in CT as another poster mentioned and we never catch a break on our energy costs. A good month would be a $200 bill, but that rarely happens. I usually expect two $500 bills in in Jan/Feb when it's coldest and July/Aug whe it's hottest. We have two separate central air systems (2-family house) and the pool pump running for three months. We also have oil heat and that's running almost $500/month on the budget with a service contract. I'm hoping that will go down when I renew this month. Last year oil prices were ridiculous. Hopefully at some point I'll be able to retire, but it's not looking good. 🤣
