Shopping, etc.
I'm about 80% done with my shopping. Just have to finish up my brother in law, niece and two nephews (all adults) and I always get those gifts finished on Black Friday. I have got all of them started. Oh... and my husband's grandson, who will have just turned 4 at Christmas. I'm waiting till closer to Christmas to shop for him since kids can be all over the place with their interests.
I was finished with my sister till I found these adorable holiday sheets on Pottery Barn's site. I didn't get her sheets, but ordered her a set of extra pillowcases in one pattern and ordered some for us too! They have a few different patterns offered. I thought they were all adorable.
I've wrapped everything I've bought so far and just finished taping up the last of the out of town boxes. And I've addressed and stamped our Christmas cards. Just have to put notes on some and sign all in early December.
I'm really proud of myself for being this far ahead and it's only late October.

I haven't bought any Chanukah or Christmas gifts yet, however I am getting my "gift wrap" done.
In California you must bring your own grocery bags to the store when you shop. So-----all my gifts will be wrapped in cute grocery bags. Most bought on the Q. This morning I bought a set of bags with the foil lining to use. The other day I got a set of nylon bags. Just thought I would do something different this year.

Thats a really clever idea

Didn't even start. I know some people like to be on top of things which is probably the wiser decision. But I can't be in the Christmas spirit if it's not even Halloween yet. In the past couple of years we have gotten all our presents like, the week before Christmas, LOL.
In the past I used to do more for Christmas gift-wise. I would get gifts for all of my friends and family and spend a ton of money. Now I see the holiday as being more about spending time with the people you love, than gifts. I know it's kind of cliche to talk about the consumerism of Christmas but I do feel like it's better to have a relaxed and low-key holiday rather than spend months stressing over it. There are more important issues in life.
This year we are definitely getting a gift for my MIL (she is Muslim but we celebrate both Eid and Christmas as a family). She has been in the hospital for the past few months and hopefully she will be in the rehabilitation place by then. We will probably get her some stuff to make her feel at home there, like some nice sweaters and books and things like that. We are also definitely getting something for my dad. Probably a bunch of books because he loves to read.
My husband and I may or may not exchange gifts. I asked him what he wants for Christmas and he said he doesn't want anything, but if I see anything that I think he might like, or there's some gadget or something that he is interested in, I will get it for him. Or I will get him some stuff that he needs, like replacements for all his clothes that are getting holes in them (he's the type of person who actually likes useful gifts).
Apart from that I may get some small gifts for a few friends, including old friends who are visiting out of town. And possibly also for some of my husband's extended relatives if we happen to visit around that time (most of them live out of state).
Questions: 1) Do "adults" actually get as many gifts for teachers, bus drivers, mailmen, etc. as QVC seems to think they do? 2) Does anyone really have a "gift closet"?

I haven't carved my Jack o lantern yet, but bought a couple small presents so far.

Not to be a Dolly Downer here, but the only holiday I'm thinking about is the one that's next on the calendar - Halloween. Then I'll be thinking about and preparing for Thanksgiving. When that's over, I'll be in the mood for Christmas.......and not a minute earlier. I have a real thing about not rushing the holidays. Everyone else, have at it, lol.

Holiday stuff? I'll probably start shopping in a month or so. I am pretty sure what I'll be getting for most without trying. I don't buy tons of gifts, just for family.

I am always done a few days after Labor Day.
Between Thanksgiving & New Yea Eve, I am so relaxed. I sit back w/a gallon of Margarita in the fridge, a Margarita in my hand & look at all the stressed out folks.

I'm partially done. I've shopped for my employees, hairdresser and petsitter. Always do the easy ones first. Now I'll concentrate on my children and husband. Then comes the rest of the family and I'm done. Try to be finished Thanksgiving weekend but there's always some last minute.
