That was rude and a missed opportunity to be helpful, to be gracious.

@occasionalrain Yes, they were probably short staffed since there were only a few cashiers available.  Then someone had to take the time to put back all the items from her cart.

@tipsy  -  I wonder if any of it was ruined because it sat out too long.  Not very nice.  SMH.

I don't shop at stores that force self checkout on me.  People need jobs, so hire them!!

I know what grocery stores still have great customer service and cashiers.

I'll refuse to work for a grocery store for free.

The advent of Self Checkouts put a lot of employees out of jobs (& associated benefits) - sadly.    Woman Sad

@JoyFilled Warrior - The reverse is often true.  Businesses can't get enough staff to fill the jobs they advertise.  So self-checkout is a benefit to customers who just want to get their things and get out the door.

Everywhere you look and every time you listen to the news, companies are saying they simply can't find the staff they need.  And with what's happening now, that problem is only going to get worse.

I'm very glad self-checkout is available.

Very true @Venezia .  Retailers cannot fill open positions.  No one wants to work in customer facing jobs anymore. I know this for a fact because I oversee 100+ QSR locations.  No matter where they're located, my stores are almost always short handed.  The people who say "just hire more people" don't realize how hard it is.  The pandemic changed how people see customers and jobs dealing with them.

This is a complete fallacy.  No one has lost a job anywhere because of self checkout.  The stores take the labor hours and redistribute them to other areas of need, like stocking or cleaning.   Take a look around and see if you can find a retail store that's not hiring.

This Self-Check-out, Cashier Job Loss/Benefits, is merely information the workers at a local Dollar Tree, & a local Walmart told me.  I guess maybe it's just with them??  or that they know of.
