That was rude and a missed opportunity to be helpful, to be gracious.

@occasionalrain Yes, they were probably short staffed since there were only a few cashiers available.  Then someone had to take the time to put back all the items from her cart.

I always use self check out.  I hate waiting in line and I can almost always find a self check out that is available.  I don't understand people's aversion to them.  What are you afraid of?  I understand someone with a disability like the OP, but for other people they are quick and easy to do.  I pump my own gasoline, too.  Are you adverse to that, too?

I bag my items if I go through the self check out.  I use the self check out sometimes if I have a few items and want to go through quickly.  I don't think you should go through self check out if you can't bag your items.  That defeats the purpose of "self" check out and delays other shoppers.  If you need help I think you should just go through the regular cashier assisted check out and move on.

Doesn't make sense to me to go through the self check out if you can't complete the process yourself.

If my dog doesn't like you, neither do I.

Could be percerived that way, but I am not on their payroll and I hope it sent a message that having just one or two registers open on a major shopping day is poor judgement. I am not a WalMart Shopper unless I need a prescription filled. My thinking is that the supervisor missed an opportunity, not I. It is not my job to be helpful-I'm the customer-it is their job to be helpful and gracious.

Use the self scanners in the stores..My supermarket is always pushing it..I'm not a s company employee! While they have a cashier(arms folder) watching what goes over the scanner.

I have trouble getting them to "help" bag my groceries( I have servere shoulder problems)..I always ask before putting my stuff on the belt..One day the girl say "no"..I let her ring everything up and then told her I didn't want it!..So she had to get a manager..he bagged the stuff for me..Never saw the girl again.

I usually get an annoyed look..I tell them I do not work or get paid from the store to work...

@Jo1313 what a spiteful nasty thing to do. You sound like one of those difficult customers.  And since you have shoulder problems & need help bagging you should use the regular checkout.

@tipsy

I'm not spiteful..I was on the regular check out line! Where they are supposed to bag!

If the store was crazy busy..I would try to bag more than a few fragile things..I don't want bread and eggs under a bag of potatoes.

I had my own business for years..If what I did..was the worst things people did in my store..I would have been lucky!

You may want to try store delivery.  Often there are 14 and 30 day free trials and you can see if it works for you.

Had Safeway delivery yesterday after starting a 14 day free delivery trial.  It was fine and will sign up full time if there ever is a time when it is needed.

No such thing as delivery here..only UPS, FED-X and 3 times a week my regular mail if we're luckythem my mailbox is stuffed.

I can't know what other's challenges are, what their life is like, but I've been fortunate and choose to show my appreciation by being considerate of others.

Any time I have only a few items that are easy to scan and get into a bag.

@Jo1313

I would like to use the cashier but they have so few of them and there's always a line. So I usually scan it myself. I have a very bad back so that process isn't easy. Luckily we have Walmart+ and our groceries and prescriptions are delivered to our door. I'm rarely in the store anymore.
