Oh come on people ...enough! O.K so HH is sometimes a little harsh and forthright,so what? At least she isn't fake, sickeningly sweet and always in cheerleader mode like some, lol.
I'd rather read her posts than those. I think we all have a different idea of what our ideal retirements would be but surely can discuss our different views without making such personal, hurtful comments.
Let's move on.

I had no choice but to retire earlier than I chose. My employer made the decision for me. I definitely wasn't lazy, as I took care of my elderly mother for the next four years after forced early retirement.
I would agree. I do know some that have retired early due to the fact that they have wealthy spouses and don't have to deal with the career "rat race" any longer.

Wow, so with hard work, and a bit of luck, if you retire too "early" you are lazy? Never heard of that one before.
I know plenty of people who "retired" from one job in their late forties, then went on to other careers or businesses that they chose. Some went back to school for advanced degrees and started different careers. Some chose to just volunteer. Some just wanted to travel or spend time with family and friends. It's all a personal choice.
Some people must work longer for many reasons. We are all different, our circumstances and goals are different. I don't see the point of judging or labeling.

Wow, the people I know who have retired early (usually in their 50's) have been able to do so because they busted their butts when they were working and worked way more than the average 40 hr work week. Not lazy people at all. Of course I am only speaking from my experience. You can't really retire early unless you have money to do so and not a lot of lazy people have that kind of money unless they are born into it and the majority of millionaires in this country are first generation.

I couldn't agree more (and very well said). I can't really add anything to your post, but to say that retirement is just a cycle in the way of life. Those who insist on hanging on to their jobs or retire and get another job are forgetting how those before them moved out of the way (retired) so the younger worker could learn and advance. These employed retirees seem to be forgeting that. And if boredom is an excuse to work, why not try volunteering? So many charitable organizations would welcome you and your skills.
I agree about the volunteering part. But I disagree with the working part. People with experience can add value and knowledge to a job.
Also, as I wrote in another post, I've known many who have retired younger, then go back to school to start a career in another field. Why shouldn't they do that if that want to?
We don't live in the movie Logan's Run, where after a certain age you're "done." Many people are living longer and healthier. Especially those who did not do hard physical backbreaking labor all their lives.
Plus, those people will contribute more to taxes, Medicare, and SS while they're working, making up for those who can't.
We should be able to live in an economy with room for everyone, and that's what we should strive for.

If you read the OP, only the first line is about the article she read, and then she's off on her "my modest lifestyle" superiority rhetoric. She then throws the first snark of the thread in post #6 by saying "I guess some people can be content with a home that is 1 1/2 miles from the beach and some have to be able to walk out the front door onto the sand. I am happy being the mile and a half away."
She just can't stand it that anyone has more than she does.
Boy, if that's being snarky, then so be it. I would much rather be 1-1/2 miles from the beach, than walk out the front door and having sand tracked into my beautiful home all day long. I know she comes across harsh at times, but cut her some slack this time. There are plenty of others who are much worse.
There are people here whose bedrooms are 400 sq. ft. (which is not really that big anyway) and who do Mensa puzzles (Mensa people and puzzles are very boring btw........)

Can some one please point out to me were Happy Housewife ever said she envied anyone on here that had more money or possessions then she has. I don't find her to have a miserable out look on life, she seems to be content with what she has and what she does in her daily life. I have never read any one of her posts that she wished she had anything that anyone on here has. I guess I will stay with her on her out look towards certain topics. All of the bashing on her about every thing she posts is uncalled for even today the ones who can't stand her and have been on here daily nit picking at her since this thread started are still on here today throwing rocks at her. Wonder how you would feel if every time you started a topic the same ones came throwing rocks at you . If she causes you so much stress you know what her nic is just ignore her. Me I will read what she has to say and will not bash her I for one appreciate some of the things she posts. If you read HH just keep posting some of us out here think you are being treated very rude.
