I was in no way being snarky and was asking an honest question, because I don't have children either and merely wanted your input.
But as usual, you turn it around.
And p.s. you could drop dead from a heart attack in 3 years.
Magicmoodz, you were merely asking a common sense question. Pay no attention to how rudely you were treated. Being able to enjoy the fruits of all the hard work done is merely common sense, human. Most of us are extremely intelligent and are very knowledgeable with the concept of "balance". My significant other is a financial advsior, a partner in his firm so I am, we are more than competant in managing our present, our future. No competant money manager would ever advise their client(s) in such a way that the OP seems to be told regarding her "future". What also makes no sense, based on what the OP posts, if she has been getting such great advice, why is she being so frugal in retirement? If she had been getting proper advice, as she claims she has, she would indeed be enjoying what she has worked so hard to have. In her retirment. People don't work that hard, put so much emphasis on having fabulous fiancial advisors just so they can have a "private duty nurse" when they are in the "home".
SurvivedOne ~! thank you for your kind and informative post. You are very fortunate that your SO has the knowledge to guide you for a promising and comfortable future.
We have always had a broker/financial advisor of some sort, but last year engaged someone new and got pretty serious about it. I have always been a saver and a good money manager. But what was interesting was that he thought we were living way below our means and encouraged us to be a bit more extravagant in our lifestyle.
I thought you said you don't like financial planners because they make money off of your portfolio...hmm. Color me confused.
As aside to no one in particular...why is Hh being stalked so much?
Please don't put words in my mouth. I did not say I didn't like financial planners, I said I am cynical. I am intelligent enough to know that my money makes him money. Therefore, I am very careful that he not put his interests ahead of mine. That is just common sense.
No stalking here. I asked an honest question and was ridiculed.
And you SHOULD be cynical!! Would you hire a roofer, a contractor, etc. just because you seek/require their "expertise" to do a job?? You educate yourself, do your own homework and trust yourself. Like any other profession, trade, yes...there are so many out their that most certainly will put their own interests ahead of yours and "sell" you what you do not need. And use fear as a selling tactic. You are clearly a common sense, very intelligent person. That is the biggest "asset" you have.

I am doing what i believe is best for me and you should do the same. when someone asks me why i am doing it - they are going to get my straight forward opinion. I never put it out there as anything else but that. seriously - what is wrong with you people - there is something the matter with someone who acts like you .
Why do you infiltrate, hijack the posts of others on the Beauty form, Fashion Forum, Kitchen forum, Electronic forum and belittle, criticize, ridicule other posters based on the purchase(s) they make based on the dollar value, cost of purchases(s). And to add insult to injury, infer posters must be in serious debt making these purchases. Then you take it even further, making unsubstantiated assumptions, stating these posters are in such heavy credit card debt and will have nothing left in their retirement. You resort to name calling and insults in order to get your "points" across. No, no one cares what it is that you do. And you should not care what anyone does with their monies as it is absolutely none of your business. You put it all out there and people respond based on your nosiness, rudness and name calling you do when you don't agree with the choices of others. Why don't you just take your own advice and treat people with respect. If you did that, you would then get respect in return.

Again, I am touched by your kindness. I am a very black and white person and that makes financial matters very scary to me. There are just too many unknowns concerning what the future might hold.
Thank you so much for giving my "financial confidence" a bit of a boost. I hope there is a tomorrow, but I won't sacrifice living today.

Take some savings and take an English class. Better yet, as a senior, you can audit - it's free.
I don't think there are separate "wards" in rehab or skilled nursing facilities. They either accept Medicaid, or they don't.
My grandmother was in one that was only private pay. It was the best and nicest facility in the area where she lived. She had the money to pay for it. However, I never saw or heard of a private room with a private nurse. Maybe Donald Trump would get that. I don't know of any policy that would pay for that, if it exists.
It's not nice to put down Medicaid, either. Lots of people have Medicaid to pay for skilled nursing care...lots of regular every day middle class people. And I have seen some very nice facilities that accept it.

No problem! I know only too well the wild twists and turns life can take so while there is "black and white", you cannot possibly know what may possibly occur from this moment forward. IMO, for me, I too will not sacrifice living today. That certainly does not mean you don't plan, to a reasonable degree, for tomorrow. We are so very lucky to have right now, I know I do not take that for granted, ever. So I savour today completely and look forward to tomorrow. Just trust yourself, your own gut. That will never steer you wrong

On 1/14/2014 Marienkaefer2 said:the home where my Dad was medicaid patients were in a different section of the facility than the private pay apteints. One thing for sure - if a patient is on medicaid they do not get a private room. My dad had a private room and a private nurse aide with him every day, because he had enough money to pay for that. She bathed him every day - got him up in to his chair - fed him and entertained him, took him outside etc. She would even come and get his dog some mornings on her way to work so he could visit with her.On 1/14/2014 Sloan Sabbith said:On 1/14/2014 happy housewife said: Magicmoods -do you know how long you are going to live?
