Re: How many things can you say about an umbrella?

As a consumer what aggravates me is that it was just a few months ago that I paid about the same amount for ONE of these and it isn't compact. Guess I need to hold back until they tell me no more of these for rest of year. Then at least I don't feel "cheated." Yes, it was my choice to buy other but having this deal so close to other is not satisfying to me as a consumer.

QVC does this kind of thing quite often. They bring out something, and then just a year or less down the road, the new and improved version comes about. Sometimes there are multiple upgrades on a regular basis!

I have said for a long time, we now have to listen to not only what the hosts/vendors ARE saying, but what they AREN'T saying as well. And we have to keep in mind, as they push and tout, could we actually want or find another version of what they are selling (like this umbrella being much more compact than the big one), and look for or wait for it.

When they presented the original, I knew right away not to buy it, as I already own a Totes umbrella that collapses down compactly like today's TSV. Mine doesn't fold inside out, but I'm wondering if that is really some feature that I just can't live without. I never go out and dump all that water from the umbrella over me anyways, so when I see these presentations, I wonder if that 'inside out' feature is really necessary (or really works like they say it will).

At any rate, the price is good for a pair of good quality umbrellas, and they are pretty.

I live in Seattle. I have lots to say about umbrellas, including the fact that they are easy to lose if you hang them on the back of your chair or on a coat rack at a restaurant. However, I subscribe to Hometalk online, and I just recently got a great idea for a door decoration that you make with a child's umbrella. If I knew how to post a picture here, I would show it to you. The umbrella was a pink and white polka dot I found aat TJ Maxx for $4.50 on sale. I got a bunch of varied silk flowers at Goodwill, and used some beautiful Costco ribbon to complete it. So easy to make and so cute. Arrange the flowers in the unopened umbrella, tie a beautiful bow in the middle to hold them in, and make a loop to hang it. Lovely. If someone tells me how to post a photo, I will. So far I stored them in My Images, but I don't know how to get them from there to here. Otherwise, go to Hometalk and do a search for umbrella door decoration.

What a cute idea, @RainCityWoman and so appropriate for the PNW☔️☔️☔️

What happens to the water from a regular umbrella??  It's all over your car.  With this one you can keep it sitting upright and the water dries.  I have the larger version and there is no issue with this at all!!!

Please accept my apology for the ten thousand re-posts of shellgarden's cartoon and GK clip.  Not sure what kind of snafu that was...

@Twins Mom

I agree, an umbrella full of water is going to be an issue on several levels. First, what happens when you get back out of the car again, and open it up. How much of that comes raining back down on you...it has to go somewhere....and I rarely just use the umbrella once to get in the car. I have to get out and make multiple trips in and out.

Second, I never let any wet umbrella dry in a collapsed position. They will mildew and stink. Every one has to be opened fully to dry once home (I do this in my garage). So I don't see any great feature here that is different from other umbrellas.

The selling point on these for me would be the pretty designs/colors, and the ability to collapse to travel size. And with my Totes that collapses. I can get in the car and collapse it just like they show with these. Both umbrellas are going to be a wet mess in the car, or when you have to get back out a few miles later.

I also noted that they used 20mph winds as the max. That doesn't sound like much. Wonder how that compares with other things out on the market?

Re: How many things can you say about an umbrella?

All I have to say about them is I don't have one I don't need one. I stay at home when it's raining. If I'm out & it starts raining I just get wet. I will dry. I also don't own a raincoat. Don't know how anyone could wear one of those when it's so humid when it's raining. I would rather get soaking wet. At least I would not be hot. LOL!!!

Re: How many things can you say about an umbrella?

When I saw them this morning, my first thought was how long is the inside/out feature going to work and when it does stop working it will be stuck in collection mode.
