Tansy, it's 1400 sq. ft. no basement. We'll see. She's coming now in a few minutes for a consultation.

She only appears when the mood hits her, and then she takes her own sweet time getting a job done, or she flits from job to job, not completely finishing what she started on any of them. If something better to do comes up, which happens a lot, she takes off and leaves the mess behind. Of course, her pay is not that good, so I guess you get what you "pay" for. In emergencies, she comes through, but then she is worn out for the 12 hours of work done all in one shift, but the results usually pass muster. You want to guess who she is?
As I was reading your post I was thinking, oh my...not good, lol, until I realized you were talking about yourself. Too funny.
Yep. I'm my uppity cleaning lady with the short attention span and big attitude.

It just depends where you live. The hourly rate in my area of CA is $25/hour for a reliable established person. You can find someone who charges a lower rate, at first, but once they start working for you, they always want to bump it up.
No...I don't have anyone at this time, but all my friends gripe about this all the time. Good help doesn't come cheap, and with the bad help, it seems they all have to go around cleaning up the things that aren't done to their satisfaction.

I love cleaning and I do most of it in our home.

I would like to get somebody in to do some heavy cleaning..washing walls, windows, taking down curtains - washing - ironing putting back up..moving furniture..top of cabints in kitchen..stuff like that!
I don't have the time and I have bad back and hip..I do it but would love to find somebody reliable..I think it will be on my "list" for this summer to get done.
I have such a full schedule...my sister's wedding, vacation, some house remodeling, my daughter's wedding in the fall..never seems to be enough hours in the week lol..

I have a cleaning lady and she comes twice a month. She is very good and I pay her $200 a month which is what I pay my gardener.

We have a private lady and her two teenage daughters come twice a month. We pay $135 each time for three hours of work. It isn't really enough though, so DH and I are discussing having just one of them come in on the opposite weeks and do different heavy duty projects.
When they come in twice a month, they get the basics done, but usually we have extra projects that need to be done. Neither DH or I like housework. We do love cooking together and don't mind cleaning up the kitchen after ourselves though.
We have a combination gardner and pool care guy too. He comes 2-3 times a month and gets a flat $200.
Then there is the exterminator -- wow! Owning a house gets pricey.

It's good to see that many do have a cleaning lady. She was over last night - I think I'll just have her for the 3 hour gift certificate because her schedule is full anyway. The one who comes over to do my hair is also a cleaning lady, I'd feel comfortable with her since I've had her come here for a few years and I like her.

Never again!!!....I'd rather clean it myself than trust that someone else will clean it to meet my expectations.
Something similar happened to us. We had a woman who was a smoker and smoked inside our house while she cleaned! We aren't smokers. So I told her no smoking in the house (honestly didn't think of that previously) so then she took smoke breaks outside on my dime. That was the end of her.
Then we had someone who came highly recommended and she just didn't clean up to my standards. She was a pretty poor cleaner. Let her go. Third woman cleaned my toilet and my floor with a rag then started to use it on my countertops!!!! That was the end of her.
Now, I'm the cleaning lady.
