Re: How long is the "New Year"?

[ Edited ]

My local radio station just did a survey and said that after January 7th , it is wrong to say Happy New Year!

I just laughed... what???

Re: How long is the "New Year"?

I agree with still wishing people a happy new year in January.  It is still the beginning of the year so I think it's fine.  Like others stated, especially if you have not seen the person yet in the new year.

If I overheard this I would just think they are nice friendly people.  Nice background sounds.

From what I hear on the evening news, so far the new year has been anything but "happy".  I don't have great expectations.

I'm trying my best to "be POSITIVE" ...  but I find it more difficult by the hour.     di

If I haven't seen the person or people since Christmas,  I wish them a Happy New Year in January.   I still work and when talking to my clients on our weekly calls I wished everyone yesterday (1st call of the year) a Happy New Year.

I'm still saying it, even though mine personally has been anything but this year.

I usually will say it throughout the month of January.

I feel comfortable getting Happy New Years and giving Happy New Years during the entire month of January.

Re: How long is the "New Year"?

If someone hasn't seen the other and it's a first time for this year, it's appropriate.  Wishing good wishes, never expires.  Look at all the people who continue to say, "Have a good day".  Just well wishes from one to another.
