How is the citrus industry in Florida doing?

The last time we were there five or six years ago they didn't allow whole fruit shipments out of the state, I'm talking the big commercial people, not the Honeybelle people.  There was a chancre problem with the fruit, stemming from the bankrupticies of orchards after the recession.  No one was left to treat with pesticides, etc.  Every year I check our markets for Florida citrus and its just not there.  Everything around here is coming from Texas and a little from California.

Demand for OJ is up but production is down. People want citrus for the Vitamin C. Citrus harvest is lower by about 17% over previous years.

You can get them in the stores, however, I prefer to go direct to the grower. I wanted to go up to the Indian River area around Vero Beach which is a little over one hundred miles north of me. I only want to buy in person not on-line. Due to COVID situation, I was unsure if the farmstands were open this season/year. We are at the end of the prime season for the Indian River navels now which is November to January. I know there are others types...I have no interest in Honeybells. Maybe next year will be better.
