@Jordan2 I'm hoping by now your daughter has her power back!
I have to ask a question though. I have never heard of a power company reimbursing customers for food loss due to spoilage from an outage. Is that a NorthEast thing perhaps?
I know here in the south if I called my power company to ask I'd probably get hung up on lol

@SunSprite it is my niece that lost power, she didn't have it back as of yesterday afternoon, she packed up her cat and is staying with her parents. As for the power company reimbursing you for loss of food, it can't hurt to ask. She has renter's insurance so she will call her insurance company to find out if she is covered.

Central NJ no power from JC P & Lsince 12:30 pm on Monday. No power, no internet, and no phone. Can't work from home. Had to find a place to charge my phone and iPad.
No generator, but you can bet that one is in the future. After Hurricane Sandy told DH to get one. Did he? No. Now I said this is a priority as I am not doing this again. Power now is estimated to come back on Sunday.
We were out over 18 days for HS.
I need my coffee and AC. All food must be trashed. What a waste. Because of trying to stay out of stores, 2 refrigerators and one freezer are packed. Now garbage.
Re getting reimbursed, JCP $L says no on their website. Re homeowners insurance they might pay, but you will pay more than double when they up your rates, and they do.
stay safe all.

@luvzchiz After the derecho left us without power for a week a few years ago, I threw out 2 refrigerators full of rotting and/or defrosted food. When I contacted my insurance company to ask about reimbursement, the CSR advised against filing a claim because our insurance rates would skyrocket. Apparently, our low premiums were based on the fact that we rarely filed any claims. Since the value of the wasted food was relatively low, we didn't file a claim.

@luvzchiz I am in NY right over the Bergen County line. We got a generator right after Sandy and have used it many times since then. Our power was restored yesterday but not the whole areas. Power company says it will come on by Aug. 11. I see people in my hometown on the shore are having the same problem with JCP and L. They got the same message from them, Aug. 11. Everyone there wishing they had a generator. They are a lifesaver for us as we have well water. No electric no water.

@SANNA wrote:I am in Middlesex county, NJ. The most affected in NJ. We had lots of rain and pretty strong wind yesterday. Lots of broken trees, branches, closed roads today.
My power went out yesterday at around 4 pm and came back today at 3 pm.
Not too bad. Some people have much worse.
@SANNA I am in Middlesex County also.

@newjerseygirl I'm glad you have a generator too. You would think after Hurricane Sandy that JCPL would have made better upgrades. Every time it rains there seems to be an issue with power! They need to do a better job in general communicating with their customers. I'm in Monmouth County & driving to a doctor appointment today in Monroe there were still many intersections without power & working traffic signals. Plus this morning's rain will only delay restoring power & cleaning all the tree debris all over. Stay safe!

Many parts of CT are a mess due to our many trees. We lost power, have huge trees blocking roads. Fortunately, we have a generator. It looks like it will be likely days before our power is restored. So many in our neighborhood have generators, as we have wells and need electricity to draw our water. Liking our AC, as well.

In my section of New Jersey we didn't get as much rain as predicted but had strong winds, We lost power at approximately 1:30PM on Tuesday. We have a whole house Generac standby generator so our freezer, refrigerators, Internet, washing machine, dryer, TV, etc were all working. But for some reason our Central AC wasn't cooling down the house so I had to turn it off. At least we were able to run fans. Power was restored in our neighborhood at approximately 2:30 - 3:00PM on Wednesday. Our generator shut itself off because it sensed power was back..... only we still were out. We ended up running the generator manually. We couldn't understand why everyone else had power except us. Turns out the generator's transfer switch hadn't worked. We finally resolved the problem at approximately 8:00PM.
