When I'm home alone, I usually use a fan during the day. At night, the dog and I need air conditioning. (my husband has an extra blanket on his side of the bed)

That is one thing that we wished we had done...gotten a dual zone heating/cooling unit. We have a downstairs that is basically a finished walkout basement. It's always about five to seven degrees cooler down there. Our laundry, guest bedroom and bath, and den are there, so we do use it regularly. I have a space heater in the den that I use all year long.
We asked about dual zone while the house was being built, but the builder looked at us like we had two heads!
Lesson learned for the next time...
