Hi terrier,

My ac is set for 70 degrees. When the inside gets to 70, it goes on. Like others who posted, due to allergies, the ac is a must.

I generally turn mine on when the temp hits 86 or so and leave it on 24/7, until the day times are in the 70's. I use an evaporative cooler which only costs about $25/mo to operate so it's not a big expense.

I live in Florida so my air stays set all off the time until Winter comes and I switch it to the heat and it stays set. We have central air and heat here. My air runs the most right now though the middle of September then it wanes down and does not turn on as much. Sometimes it does not come on much but the humidity is in the house so I turn the air down so it will run though a few cycles to get the humidity out.

Here in Arizona we started turning on the AC in April. Each house is different and the one we have calls for 76 day and night. Some rooms get cooler than others, for instance my bedroom and bathroom gets so cold I have to turn off the ceiling fans and other parts of the house don't cool off as well. When I lived in California, every afternoon around 4:00 p.m. I opened my windows and the sea breeze would flow through the whole house. I seldom had to have the AC on at night but here it doesn't cool down enough at night to turn it off. Housing is less expensive in AZ but the electric bills are a killer, hate the summers here.
