I would LOVE to be able to do that!! I would be so very comfortable-and the a/c would probably never shut off-

I guess one good thing about being in 'high desert' is that, even when it's 90-100 out during the day, it cools down considerably at night.
To be able to set different temps at different times you just need a thermostat that has that scheduling ability. The downside, if you don't already have one, is that even a basic thermostat like that costs around $300 (around here, anyway).
We got lucky (if you want to call it that) and got our current thermostat (that has even more scheduling options than our last one) for free when the idiot carpet guys killed our last one. That was just over $300 that THEY had to pay to replace it.

Chickenbutt- I do understand first hand about the high desert and cooling off at night. But 70 at 5 am in not cooling off to me. 50, yes, but those temps won't be seen for a long time.
We have an adjustable thermostat but I keep it on permanent hold at 74. Mr. kdgn would prefer 78. I told him during the hotter months his preferences don't count. 66-68 during the winter is fine with him so I don't understand why a permanent hold on 70-71 wouldn't work during the heat! Of course the $600+ electric bill would be a disadvantage....

I turn mine on when t he inside temp goes above about 81 degrees. Usually the occurs when the outside temps go to 100 and the nights don't cool down below 80.
I keep it on 81 in the house with ceiling fans going. I freeze to death (not to mention go broke) if I had the temp on 71! No humidity makes a big difference too, I know. When monsoon season comes, I may have to put the AC on 78 or 79 when I sleep

Oh yikes! Yeah, I couldn't deal with 70 degrees in the early morning. I'd be dying for sure. Lately here it's only been getting into the 50s at night but soon it's going to be going toward highs in the 90s and will probably only get down into the 60s at night. I hate summer. I live for winter! ![]()
During the winter I wouldn't be able to stand 66-68 in the house. I'd be gasping for air. I keep mine on 59 in the winter during the day and 56-57 at night (I'd keep it cooler if it weren't for the bird and the husband). I block the heat vent completely in my bdrm so it's never heated.
My husband used to be like me but now he gets cold. He sleeps with the heat and 6 or 7 blankets on. Yikes! I can only use TWO blankets in the winter and one in the summer. He only removes one blanket in the summer AND he sleeps in sweats. I don't know what changed, or how he does it, but at least we have a large enough house that we can each have comfortable sleeping conditions. ![]()

When the inside temp gets to 78-80 the AC gets turned on and usually stays on here in the south till late fall!

came on today for the first time even though I live on Lake Erie shore, the humidity is stifling. Mine is set at 75. I think it's 88 outside right now.

I run my AC alot.
We have the hottest sun in our house that could fry bacon and eggs.
I tend to keep things too cold like a meat locker.
I am trying not to do that anymore.
