Living in the hot, miserably-humid mid-west, our A/C runs from the time it reaches the mid-70s and goes till it ends. I hate summers here. I love fall, winter and spring, but summers: NO!

Ours is set at a constant 77. I can't imagine a setting any lower or I'd have to wear a sweater to stay comfortable. (We're going to be in an oven next week with temps of 110+ and I'm not looking forward to it.) I forgot to say that we also have ceiling fans in great room, den and bedrooms that run most of the day.
77 here also.....and even at that the gas and electric bill will make you cringe!

i am in central MS - ours is turned on late feb/early march and will stay on until end of november! DH likes it to be cool as much as possible! to the point it is still in the 70's here every year for thanksgiving. we would faint over dinner if we did not have a/c on!! and i believe DH keeps it set on 73 at all times. it's been a while since i looked at it though.

It's so humid here in Arkansas that we turn on our A/C in late April or early May. It's kept between 70 and 72 all spring, summer and most of autumn just to keep the humidity and mold at bay. Electric costs are cheaper down here so our bill rarely gets above $300 in the peak of the summer. Plus, I have COPD and can't breath when it's hot and humid, so we gladly pay the bill.

Humidity is definite the factor for me as well. I have only put it on for two days so so far this season. Currently, it is off. When the sheets and papers in my home start to feel damp I turn it on, lol. I can withstand pretty hot temps. Last week my house was 84 degrees before I broke down and turned it on.

So many variables in when I turn on the a/c. First is allergies - I have lots of them so depending on what pollen is raging regardless of outside temp and humidity my windows get closed.
I live in an all brick house and those bricks really do absorb the heat. If it's really sunny, and minimal breezes, house gets too hot, so the a/c gets turned on.
If the humidity is high, my a/c goes on.
One good thing though, sort of. I had to replace my HVAC system late in the winter. Had a 93% efficient system installed and a high SEER rated a/c unit. Even though my a/c has been running just about all month, my electric bill is less than it was with my seriously old bad shape a/c unit that I only ran last summer when I was desperate.
Edited by me to add, I WISH I could cool my house to the temp I'm happiest with during the winter time which is 65. That's the temp I'm perfectly comfortable at. At 70 or 72 degrees, I'm still hot and have fans running in whatever room I'm in.

no ac at all. Our house last summer on a hot one week stretch of weather was 90 degrees upstairs. All we have are fans. We get very little mega hot weather so AC just would be great for a couple days a year.

I have it set on 71 during the day. Then, from 10:30pm to 5:30am, it goes down to 65. I have to sleep in a cool environment, so the night time temp is probably more important than during the day.

Do not need one here in the NW. If the sun doesn't come out soon this morning I am thinking of firing up the heater actually. Will need a vest for my walk

When I'm.hot, it comes on. I grew up in AZ, so a/c is like any other household appliance to me. You use it when you need it.
Where I live now, it doesn't get hot...rarely hits 70... But we can have a stretch near 80 in the summer, and that is warm here. So I'm glad I have it if I need it.
