How does a U.K. paper get so many "scoops"?

I'm in amazement at how many in-depth stories the Daily Mail carries.

They are a mash up of gossip, sensationalism, yet sometimes also solid reporting.

I don't read that paper often but they must have a lot of journalists across the world.  Every once in a while I will watch BBC America and catch their news.  I notice there how much more indepth their reporting is.
