Re: How do you respond in an emergency situation?

I've usually been lucky enough to keep my head and tend to the emergency, it's later, when the shock of the whole situation might set in. Sometimes it's ok, it's like coming down off the stress high. We all get through it.

Re: How do you respond in an emergency situation?

I think having drills "in case" really is helpful. We are prone to wildfire in our area. We have neighborhood drills, where we load up cars with animals and certain paper valuables etc. We actually evacuate and are timed by emergency forces.

When we have had to evacuate because of fire it was good to have the motions already set in our minds.

Some times in an emergency I am as cool as a cucumber others my mind is all over the place and totally useless.

Re: How do you respond in an emergency situation?

I've been trained to react in emergency situations so it's just second nature to me, but even as a kid I was able to react appropriately in an emergency.

Well I won't be going off into space anytime soon.

I live in Earthquake country and each of them that has hit has been different but the strong ones are what put me to the test. I always make sure my husband is safe and protected as he will know what to do if something should happen to me.

I usually just do what I can and make sure we are safe and secure. Then I have to make sure that looters or robbers don't come by. That's another story.

Re: How do you respond in an emergency situation?

I have always been good in emergency situations. I also took care of my ailing parents for years before they passed, so I had a lot of experience with their emergencies.

Now, I have to wonder. Since I broke my ankle I not as mobile as I used to be. If there is a Zombie Apocalypse I am going to be one of the first to go. {#emotions_dlg.crying}

in an emergency situation........I'm the gal you want around.....I'm calm, in charge, and get things done.....AFTER it's all over, I'm the gal you don't want around LOL........I get a little shocky...........................raven

I had to smile when I read this, Raven. That is kind of what happens to me. My grandson and I were at one end of the house. His mother (my DD) and DH were in the den at the other end of the house. Grandson (about 4 then) grabbed a donut hole and ran to the TV to watch a cartoon. The donut holes were big. I watch him pop the whole thing is his mouth. Seconds later her he turned to me and had an alarming look on his face. I screamed his name and asked him if he was choking. I knew he had swallowed it whole and was choking. I immediately started the Heimlich maneuver on him. My daughter had heard me scream at him and came running. It wasn't coming up so she called 911.....she knew I had done this successfully once before on her brother so she didn't try to take over. In my mind, I knew I would save him. HIM CHOKING TO DEATH WAS NOT AN OPTION in my book! I kept my cool being mindful not to break a rib. I could tell he was not breathing properly and prayed that it would work as I was doing it. The last time I had done this it came right up with my son years before. We were getting into minutes now. Just as the ambulance was on it's way.....out it came.... He started screaming and crying and I could not comfort him. My DD took over with him from there. I was totally wasted. I leaned against a wall shaking like a leaf and was no earthly good to anyone at that point. It drained everything in me that I had.

Re: How do you respond in an emergency situation?

I've been in numerous emergency situations and I always remain calm. The first priority is problem solving.

I had my own at one point and was told, "I know you are afraid." I said no, I wasn't afraid. I was in "get through it" mode and paying attention of every detail. I very rarely feel afraid, only for others.
