Re: How do you pronounce caramel?

I pronounce it carmel. Not even know why.  I can spell and I can read.  Does seem strange that the a sound is left out.  But perhaps it is regional.  I am from Maryland and my parents were from Vermont and Rhode Island and did live in New Jersey for a few years.

I grew up saying carramel. No car. Carr as in cat.

Personally I go with Carmel with the accent on Car. Rhymes with Camel.

I wonder if it's regional. I'm a midwesterner and grew up with Car-mel (short on the "el.") I live in the south and my friend who loves Car-ahh-mell cake giggles everytime I say it. I'm happy to give her a laugh. Smiley LOL

Re: How do you pronounce caramel?

I've always pronounced it CAR-muhl.  But I have also understood that both pronounciations are considered correct.

Now, that doesn't sound like the town Carmel, as some have eluded.  That is car-MEL.

I like stuff like this.  Smiley Happy
