Re: How do you like your Refrigerator?

TaxyLady, I sure hope it meets all of your needs and expectations.   As you can see, buying things for the home is not so simple.

Re: How do you like your Refrigerator?

I have a Kenmore.

I hate it.  (I didn't pick it out; I just got stuck with it.)

I'm pretty sure a complete moron designed it--or a college intern--because the design makes no practical sense.  It's as if the designer was only interested in stowing pizza boxes and 6-packs of beer cans in there.  There's one too many glass shelves (useful for storing pizzas and beer cans, but not water pitchers or gallon jugs).  The shelves in the door are--again--useful for storing beer cans, if you use all 3 shelves on the left side of the door.  Trying to fit things like a bottle of salad dressing or a bottle of water only work if you take one shelf out...and then there is wasted space.  I cannot understand how that design got the green light. Re: How do you like your Refrigerator?

I may be in the same boat soon, OP - our fridge is veering on 30 yrs (hotpoint!).  It's a side-by-side, and though it does have some horizontal space limitations, it's got cool faux teak handles and works just fine.

The problem I have is fitting something else in the space - and it seems as if the assumption is that we all need "chef grade" fridges that are large and showy.

I will be thinking of you and hope that you find the "right one".  My dream would be to have my current one refurbished, but that will have to go the wayside like the '70s Magnavox.  Or the '65 Bug.

Re: How do you like your Refrigerator?

I love my frig. I did get a Miele when we moved into our house and while I liked most everything about it, it really was terrible at making ice. I find most European frigs don't make a lot. We like a lot of ice. Thankfully we could return it and we got a Sub Zero. That is seriously the best one I have ever had. I love it.

Re: How do you like your Refrigerator?

About three years ago we had to purchase a new frig.  It is a Frigidaire side by side.which cost around a thousand dollars.  Don't really like it at all.  The freezer side seems small to me.  The refrigerated side is a good size, but the shelves are cheap plastic and break off easily where they hook in.  Also, the ice maker works sometimes and sometimes doesn't.  I think many refrigerators these days are made cheaply and don't last very long.  Good luck in finding a decent one. I am looking for a new oven. Ours lasted 5 years.

Re: How do you like your Refrigerator?

I used to have a side by side and will never have another.  Tall and narrow doesn't work.

I have french doors on my current frig and love it!  The freezer is on the bottom.  It's my favorite style.

Re: How do you like your Refrigerator?

I have a GE builder grade, side by side with the water and ice in the door. Other than being a little bit too small if we were a whole family and not just 2 of us, I have no issues with it.

For years I wanted a freezer on the bottom and finally got one - hated it once I had it and would not do that again.I really like the side by side design. I am always careful how I spend my money and I would be very thoughtful before I buy any appliances, esp. a fridge, as they are so expensive these days, you really don't want to make a mistake. Be sure to measure the space you have available to put the fridge into so you know when you go to the store how large you can go. Something we like a lot about our fridge is it is on wheels so it can be pulled out to clean behind it occasionally.

Re: How do you like your Refrigerator?

I HATE my refrigerator. We had to buy it about  15 years ago in an emergency situation when our very old one died.... so husband went out and purchased it when I was at work. It is awful to look into. I have to bend my head down below the freezer on the top to see anything and I have a bad back and neck.  I tell him how much I hate it every time I open the door!

If I bought one today, it would be a bottom freezer with two doors on top. I rarely open the freezer and would like the access to the refrigerator without having to bend.
