Good to know. My limit is 1500.00, I am not going to budge from that budget.

I have a smaller size GE builder grade side by side with the water and ice in the door. There are only 2 of us so I don't feel I need a large fridge and I don't like to have too much in the freezer at a time in case we get a tropical storm and lose power for days. So - this one is perfectly adequate for our needs. I have had freezer on the top , freezer on the bottom and this side by side. I really prefer the side by side. My tastes are simple - I am not much interested in every new gadget. It keeps the food cold and the meat frozen so I'm happy.

I have 3 in this house; two I like, and one I don't particularly like. The one I don't like is the brand new one in my recently updated kitchen. It's a 21 cu ft GE, with freezer on the top. The large freezer compartment and the deep crisper drawers are the main features I like on this refrigerator, along with the fact this fridge can hold a lot of food. You cannot adjust the shelves, and the open space between the top shelf is not tall enough to easily store gallons of milk on that shelf. Therefore, milk is stored in the door. Even tho the crisper drawers are deep and huge, they sag with food inside of them and create a large gap beneath the glass shelf above. When items get pushed to the back of the lower shelves, it is very hard to reach them.

The oldest fridge here is an 18 cu ft Whirlpool, that is our overflow and extra storage fridge. It has wire shelves and is my favorite of all. It was moved out of the kitchen due to several door shelves getting broken and not being able to store all of our condiments there.

The garage fridge has freezer on the bottom, and was voted the favorite refrigerator of any we've ever had, but it always leaked due to a clogged condensate drain. It stopped working altogether during the kitchen remodel, which is why I purchased the larger fridge. Once moved to the garage, my husband got it working again, so it remains there as our drink fridge, and the freezer storage is for deer meat.

We recently bought a Fisher & Paykel French door, bottom freezer. The appliance store rep we worked with said she has had this brand for over 10 years and has had no issues with it. Pretty happy with it.

We recently purchased a new refrigerator and we're really happy with it. It's a GE Profile french door refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. It's also counter depth which we wanted so it doesn't stick way out in the kitchen. It was highly rated in Consumer Reports. We love the organization and lighting.

Before I remodeled the kitchen I had my original 22 year old refrigerator. Now I have a Liehberr which is a bottom freezer. I really like it, but pray I get a long life out of it.

I purchased all my appliances prior to having my cabinet placement designed. Dumb move. So my cabinetry is built around the size of my appliances. My frig is tall, but only 24" wide, my built in oven is 27" wide and I have a half drawer dishwasher.

I love my little efficient kitchen, but I know I'll be moaning big time when the time comes that one of my major appliances dies. I just hope I will be able to find a replacement that fits, otherwise it will be back to the drawing board.

About 7 weeks ago, we purchased a large condo and found that all of the appliances required replacement due to the fact that they were missing or simply did not work any longer.

We did a lot of research regarding each appliance required and the first stop my husband made was to one of those dented and used places. We did get our washer and dryer from them, but that was it.

The problem with our frig was size constraint. I wanted a french door, because I had had one before and loved it, but they were all at least 1.5 to 3 inches too tall. My husband and I agreed, after looking at what must have been 75 refrigerators, that a unit with the freezer on the top would not suffice, because those freezers aren't large enough. Also, why place the freezer in the most convenient place? If I want convenience, it's into the frig.

So we decided on a unit with a freezer on the bottom,even with my lousy back.

Now which brand. Long story short: we ended up purchasing a Whirlpool, because part of the second shelf can be slid toward the rear and out of the way. This means that you can place your large milk containers IN the frig, instead of in the doors and also place large and tall items requiring storage there as well. As luck would have it, we happened into a local, not chain, appliance store to take a look at what they had and this frig/freezer unit was on sale. It really turned out to be a win-win for us.

Oh, yes, we had moved from a rental we'd been in for nearly 2 years after moving to Portland and there was a weird Samsung in that kitchen. That Samsung had to be the worst frig/freezer ever. We actually think it was a prototype as in another discussion most liked their Samsungs. However, beware of the ding-ding-ding alarm bell that tells you that you didn't close the door properly. Frankly, that Samsung doesn't come close to the Whirlpool we now have, another positive being that the Whirlpool is quiet and the Samsung was noisy.
