Re: How do you Clean a Brand-New Toothbrush?

I don't wash new toothbrushes never even gave it a thought lol..I am sure I have had worse in my mouth at one time.

As for new clothes. Depends on the item. If I want it to shrink into shape then I do..

I have never had a clothing item smell where I needed to air it out. If something smelled in the store I wouldn't purchase it.

Or became mildly ill?

Good idea, and the easiest, Autumn. Listerine. Better flavor, too.

Re: How do you Clean a Brand-New Toothbrush?

The reason why I started to first wash new toothbrushes is, because many years ago I bought a couple of inexpensive ones, and they had a chemical taste. Perhaps the nylon bristles weren't made properly, or some type of chemicals were used on them. So, I've been cleaning my new brushes first, just in case, although the major brands (Oral B, etc.) don't have any taste/odor. They have been fine. Well, 'to each our own'. Same with clothes and many (not all) seem to have chemical odors. I air out for a week or so, then wash. Possibly they are sprayed in the overseas factories, during shipping, or at the store sites. Some type of routine cleaning and sanitization, etc. Or simply the fabric dyes, etc. Could be anything.

I've never aired out clothes either. If it smelled that bad, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place

That makes a lot of sense. I have to admit that I have not washed a new toothbrush, but anything could be on there from chemicals to bacteria. Like you said - could be anything!

I use a Cybersonic and they send me new brush heads every three months. They are wrapped in plastic, but they could have all kinds of cooties on them. I'm surprised that I never really thought about it because, having an auto-immune disorder, you'd think I'd be all over that.

At any rate, I don't think anybody needs to be mocked for things like this.

Re: How do you Clean a Brand-New Toothbrush?

Thanks, chickenbutt. Also, I've watched a few travel type of shows, and sometimes kids assemble various items, etc. So, better to wash than not, IMO. 'The way I look at it' is that we're not harming anyone else by doing 'our thing'. I used to have terrible allergies......not so much anymore, if at all. Use unscented liquid laundry products, etc., etc. Some folks live daily on strong allergy meds., and possibly they wouldn't need them if they were mindful of various irritants. JMO, though.

Re: How do you Clean a Brand-New Toothbrush?

Sometimes it's difficult to really smell the clothing odors in the store(s)........can't tell until I get them in the car or at home where the air is clear. Then the odor (if it's there) is much more noticeable. I've read similar instances here on the boards, too. Anyway, I do believe that some people are more sensitive than others.
