@kaydee50 wrote:@dooBdoo Excellent instructions. Thanks! It did take me a little while to figure out where "My nickname" is--on the left side in a drop down menu--but it worked.
Formerly castlenv now kaydee50!
Thank you, @kaydee50, and you're welcome! I'm glad the instructions were helpful for you.😊

@World Traveler wrote:@Huge Hannah I would add to @dooBdoo great instruction that you be sure you want to change it. I understand that once you change it and if you decide to go back, that you can't have the prior nickname back....that it shows that it is taken. I could be wrong on this, but that is what I have read other posters say when they have tried. They had to do something different from the original one if they wanted it back, like add a hyphen or make it all one word if it was originally two words or add a number, etc.
That's a good cautionary post. I know many posters have used the steps I posted and sometimes were able to re-select an older nickname that had been associated with their account yet in other cases the system wouldn't permit it. I think it's another sign of major glitches in the user file on this website.
I would also add for general information to those considering a new name: using a space in the nickname will make it harder for other posters to call up the name if they want to use the "@+nickname" alerts -- and if 2 spaces are used it almost always will revert the "@+nickname" to plain text and the notification alert won't work at all.

Okay @dooBdoo I got it! Thank you! I never thought to look there.

You're welcome, @SilleeMee! That's why I specify which settings to look in, in step #1. I don't think it's intuitive to go over there, and that's why many posters have a problem when they decide to look for it.🌻

@dooBdoo You are correct about the two names. People have a hard time notifying me, unless I have already responded in a thread and they use the drop-down menu to find me. But if I haven't posted in the thread already, it can cause a problem and I don't know someone is notifying me unless I just happen to open the thread and read all the posts and then see that someone is trying to notify me.
One of the gals in the Travel forum figured out that if they put in my name (or anyone else who has at least two names) in a thread I have not already appeared in, and THEN do a carriage return/hard return, they say my name will then work with it being highlighted and underlined.

Good to know! I’ve had that problem in the past with a few nicknames where I couldn’t remember if there was a space or not. I’ll have to give this a try if it happens to me again.
Thanks!

Unfortunately, even a carriage return after your nickname (or adding characters or spaces after it) will often cause it to revert back to plain text because of the 2 spaces. That's the software glitch.
@World Traveler. <---as in this example.
@World Traveler
<---and this example after using a return
So, even though the carriage return works sometimes, it's glitchy. The only way I can be sure it will remain as a hyperlink is to type my entire post first and then place my cursor just above my comments and add your name at that point, making sure not to enter anything else after that. This software doesn't handle spaces in nicknames well at all -- I hate that you miss so many notifications as a result.
(edited to add: I just realized you mentioned "at least two names" so I wanted to clarify that your nickname actually has 2 consecutive spaces in the name, and multiple consecutive spaces will actually compound the software problem.)
