Years ago a student intern at my job had trouble pronouncing my last name so she nicknamed be spumoni, it stuck with her at least, I was always spumoni to her.

A work BFF had long ago started calling me this, I believe with a bit of sarcasm. But then some others began using the name for me. So this is me, la luz del mundo, or "the light of the world."

I believe there is a church that uses that phrase as part of their name, but that has no bearing at all on my use of it.

I couldn't think of anything creative at the time, and I happened to see a ladybug crawling on the end table at that particular moment in time.  Ladybugs are suposed to bring good luck and prosperity, sooooooo........  🐞🐞🐞  I did have to play with the spelling though as there was already various versions of it.

When DH & I got our first totally indoor cat in 1993, she was quite the handful! One day I heard him call her "You little vermint!'...he meant "varmint", but it came out wrong, lol. Anyway, her name was Shadow, she lived to be 14 1/2, and her nickname stayed "vermint", so I adopted it. She was without a doubt the craziest cat we've had!

As a young girl, like many other young girls, I read classic books like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Height, etc., so full of doomed romance & passion, & dark, brooding men. They carried me away.

Then, with those girlish thoughts, one day I read a book by Raphael Sabatini, & decided that the author's name was the most wildly romantic one I'd ever heard.

After all of these years I probably should correct it.

Mine is what I’ve called my daughter since she was a baby. I still do sometimes.
