Re: How d'ya "Power Down" at Night?

No bright lights at night, after 8pm or so.  And I always, always read before turning in.  It relaxes me like nothing else.

Re: How d'ya "Power Down" at Night?

Wonderful techniques here! THANK YOU!

Many ask for a variety of your techniques to try.

Some even say to keep the Cell  Phone out of the bedroom.  Or hide the Cell Phone from yrself; Dont answer, after a certain time.

Some say that "sleep deprivation" is at the crux of many a problem for ppl in life, even precursor to several crimes, & for continuing healthy relationships!  And many, many ppl suffer from "sleep deprivation.

I love that I can set my iPad screen to a very low light at night - just enough to be comfortable reading, but not so much as to keep me alert.  I used to buy paperbacks, but once I downloaded that Kindle app I never looked back.

Re: How d'ya "Power Down" at Night?

@scatcat, several years ago I was on retreat and the retreat leader conducted a Taize service. It was one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had! I did not know there was recorded music available (the experience was never repeated, unfortunately), and I will be checking it out. I am old, still working full time, have recurring kidney stones and haven’t slept through the night for years. Worth a try!

(Whoops.  I'm confused who above was asking.  apologize!)

I tried all of these Taize service CDs, &. "Laudate" was the only one I liked the best, by far.

I noticed several used ones avaiable online, reasonably priced.  I read what they say is their "condition," but i'm not sure.   I know i've gone thru about 3-5 different tapes, then followed by CDs when they came out.

It's so incredible, to me, I was even thinking of paying the full price for "Laudate" for $47!!  Or contacting the "Laudate" makers (I believe they''re in Canada)

This particular "Laudate"  gives me the most "incredible reassuring lull" to sleep, like I've never ever experienced before!

But the way, the original "Laudate" CD, I found at a small Catholic store, (since closed), (even tho I dont think it's a Catholic CD).

So Maybe small stores might have a :"Laudate" buried in their inventory somewhere," if calling around.

Years ago, I also heard "samples" of each "Laudate" song, online too, as an option to test it out for ya, before possible purchase.

Good luck!

OH MY GOSH

YT is absolutely covered with a plethora of Taizé  songs/ albums/CDs

You could even listen to them & make your own "Sleep CD" of all your effective "sleep/relaxing songs."

There's  WAYYYYYYYY more Taizé songs out there now, on YT, compared to when I first found this particular Audio Tape/CD during the (ole) 1980s/90s  heh    I guess it "caught on,"  (NO WONDER!)  heh

Here's my CD info, in case this helps:

Laudate" "Music of Taizé"

TheTaize Community (Artist, Orchestra),

Jacques Berthier (Composer),

Father Jerry Threadgold (Conductor)

If you need the list of song names on this, let me know, k?

Good luck!

Re: How d'ya "Power Down" at Night?

@JoyFilled Warrior I've been a terrible sleeper since I was young. I have been awake, as of this moment, for 20 hours today ... lol .. still not sleepy. I still work full-time, always have. One of these days, maybe I'll figure it out. 😛😴

PS... my doctor just gave me some new sleeping pills to try .. but I haven't taken them yet ... I just don't know how they'll make me feel. 😬

ASMR.  @JoyFilled Warrior go to youtube on your phone and find a soothing ASMR sound to listen to for a while.  It might help.

@JFD12

aww.  I'm sad to hear abt this. It's sucks to be sleep deprived!

You might want to have your terrific doctor check yr Magnesium levels. Lack of Magnesium cld cause this.

Also, a Valerian Root "herb" is AWFUL tasting & smelling but it can help with sleep also, (check with your terrific Doc, &/or do research."

Hopefully, some suggestions on all this thread can help!  Like @gertrudecloset  there's many videos/sounds on YouTube that might be able to help.

My sister finds music by "Peder B Helland" is soothing.

She also takes what she calls "edibles.."  I think there are special stores (?marijuana without the punch) that sell these for sleep. They advise what works.   At least that gives her *some* sleep. maybe 3-4 hrs, vs *up* all day & night!.

I also suggest some YT song choices by "Enya," or "Kitaro."

I hope something helps ya, 'cause getting enough sleep can change a person's life.  Maybe something on this thread (or others) can help?

Take good care, good sleep  @JFD12   Woman Happy

(added):

If your terrific doctor approves, maybe try 1/4 or 1/2 his/her medication to start with?  Testing "how it makes you feel?"
